Textos en inglés al final del post / English translation at the end of this post.
Todos los aniversarios de Noviembre aquí / All anniversaries for November here.

Serie El Gran Valle / The Big Valley Series, "Annie", 2008

Serie Rostro en la multitud / Face in the Crowd Series

Serie El Gran Valle / The Big Valley Series, "Eve", 2008

"Girl with Lamp", from the book 'November Girl', 1967. Pleasurephoto

Sam Haskins and model at work in his Johannesburg studio", principios de / early 1960s. Pleasurephoto

"Doncella Zulu", del libro 'Imagen africana' / "Zulu maiden", from the book 'African Image', 1967. Shattenbereich

"Gill con rizo, del libro 'Cinco chicas' / "Gill with Curl", from the book 'Five Girls', 1962. Pleasurephoto

Serie 'Algo más', Nº 1 / 'Something More' Series, #1, Cibachrome, 102,6 x 131,7 cm., 1989
Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia)

"Doll Birth, 1972", from the Scarred for Life Series, fotolitografía / photolithograph, 80 x 60 cm., 1994

Serie 'Algo más', Nº 3 / 'Something More' Series, #3, Cibachrome, 111 × 141 × 3,2 cm., 1989
Museum of Contemporary Art (Sydney, Australia), purchased 1992

"Useless, 1974" from the Scarred for Life Series, fotolitografía / photolithograph, 80 x 60 cm., 1994

On November 1 is the birthday of

Alex Prager, American art photographer and filmmaker born in 1979, based in Los Angeles
Her photographs primarily use staged actors, models and extras to create "meticulously designed mise en scène”, often described as film-like and hyperreal. Prager’s growing filmography expands the fictive realities of her still works, touching upon themes of alienation and the pluralism of modern life.
Prager began her photography practice after viewing an exhibition of William Eggleston's at the Getty Museum in 1999-2000. Her staged color photographs are described by Ken Johnson as being influenced by Cindy Sherman, Philip-Lorca diCorcia and Douglas Sirk.
In 2005, Prager created a group of works, The Book of Disquiet, as an exhibition and joint publication with artist Mercedes Helnwein. She began to gain more attention after exhibiting Polyester in 2007, which focused on Southern California and portraits of various women and girls. Her next series, titled "The Big Valley", was shown in 2008 at Michael Hoppen Gallery in London and in 2009 at Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York. In 2010, along with the series Week-End, Prager created her first short film, Despair which was based on her earlier photographic work.
In 2012, Prager addressed themes of disaster and spatial turbulence with the series Compulsion. Prager's second short film "La Petite Mort" was made simultaneously, starring French actress Judith Godreche with narration from Gary Oldman. The film was a "contemplation on death" and according to Prager, devised from a more traditional film understanding.
Prager's series, Face in the Crowd, debuted at Washington D.C.'s Corcoran Gallery of Art in 2013. Shot on a Hollywood soundstage, Prager re-built spaces of dense public gathering - city streets, a movie theater, a beach, an airport. She filled these sets with personally selected and dressed friends, relatives and 150 extras, culminating in large-scale photographs and a 10-minute three-channel video installation starring actress Elizabeth Banks. Face in the Crowd magnifies Prager's characteristic evocation of timelessness whilst maintaining an acute awareness of the contemporary plight.
In 2015, Prager was commissioned by the Paris Opera to create a film for 3e Scène. The film, La Grande Sortie, explores the tension between a performer’s experience on stage and the audience watching.

On November 2 is the birthday of

Shigeo Gochō (牛腸茂雄), renowned Japanese photographer born in 1946 in Kamo, Niigata Prefecture.
At the age of three he suffered a spinal caries. Though his life was saved, he was left severely handicapped and would live in pain and under the threat of death for the rest of his life. Gochō published three books; “Days (1971), Self and Others (1977), and Familiar Street Scenes (1981).
In 1968, he published his first photos in Camera Mainichi, a famous photo magazine. They were four photos of children, and they were part of a feature called ‘Symposium: Contemporary Photography,” which is now regarded as the starting point of the ‘Conpora’ movement. (‘Conpora’ abbreviates ‘contemporary.’) Conpora photographs are mostly taken on the horizontal. These photographers use the camera in the simplest way possible; their subjects are the most ordinary from daily life. And Gocho was regarded as a representative photographer in the movement.
After graduating, Gochō worked as a graphic artist, and tried to pursue his photographic career, occasionally publishing photos in magazines, and putting his energies into the self-published books “Self and Others” and “Familiar Street Scenes”. These two books differ greatly the one from the other, but both highlight aspects of Gocho’s vision. The earlier seems perfect in form, while the later book shows the artist setting out in a new direction.
He died in 1983.

On November 3 is the birthday of

Tereza Vlčková, Czech photographer and also a lecturer at the Institute of Creative Photography in Opava, where she teaches fashion photography. She was born in 1983 in Třebíč. She belongs to the generation of young Czech photographers from the beginning of the 21st century together with other artists such as Barbora Krejcova, Dita Pepe, Kateřina Držková or Barbora Prášilová.
She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Department of Advertising Photography, FMC TBU in Zlín, Czech Republic, 2003-07, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Silesian University in Opava, The Institute of Creative Photography, Czech Republic, and a Master of Fine Arts, 2008-2012.
She works with color photographs, adapting dressing and environment so that everything fits into the atmosphere she is trying to create.
"I do not use the assembly as much as it seems - I try to have everything prepared on the spot - of course not all my ideas meet reality. Just as the final editing is important for me, it's a good idea to have a good shot."
It affects the resulting color, removes unnecessary details, or composes the resulting image from multiple shots. The use of photomanipulation enhances the impact of photographs with extraordinary poetics, a distinct world at the interface between reality and dream.
She works with identity changes similar to Kateřina Držková, Sylva Francová or Daniela Dostálková. Like many photographers abroad, she has dealt with the subject of twins.
She has participated in numerous exhibitions, photographic festivals and competitions in the Czech Republic and abroad; For example, Prague Photo, Prague Biennale Photo, The Month of Photography in Bratislava, and Paris Photo.

On November 4 is the birthday of

Gérald (Gérard) Bloncourt, Haitian painter and photographer born in 1926 in the small city of Bainet, in Haiti's Sud-Est department, resident in the suburbs of Paris, France. Gyula Pap, Hungarian painter, lithographer, silversmith, designer, teacher, photographer and Bauhaus student, born in 1899 in Orosháza, Austria-Hungary.
He moved in 1912 with his parents to Vösendorf and then to Vienna, where he attended from 1914 the Graphic Training and Research Institute. In 1917 he was called as a soldier to the Italian front and studied at the end of the war a year at the School of Applied Arts in Budapest. After the suppression of the Soviet Republic, he emigrated to Austria, where he attended the private art school of Johannes Itten in Vienna, where Naum Slutzky also taught. In 1920 he moved to the silversmith training at the Weimar Bauhaus, where Itten led the metal workshop. There was a Menorah from 1922 by Pap, and also designed as a six-armed candlesticks, and the liqueur jug. A painting class with Theo van Doesburg introduced him to his initiative De Stijl. Like Paul Citroen, Georg Muche and Itten, Pap belonged to the Mazdaznan supporters at the Bauhaus. He came in 1923 in the dispute over the future direction of the Bauhaus on the "industrial purpose", whereupon László Moholy-Nagy took over as "Formmeister" the metal workshop and Itten, who pursued the "artistic style", left the Bauhaus. Pap passed the exam before the Weimar Chamber of Crafts on April 6, 1923, he received the certificate from Walter Gropius, and he went back to Transylvania because his mother was ill.
Between 1924 and 1927 he worked as a lithographer and began to photograph. He was then brought by Itten to his private art school in Berlin, where he directed a painting class and the nude drawing until 1933. After the transfer of power to the Nazis his residence permit was not renewed, and Pap returned to Hungary in 1934, where he tried to run a painting school. In Budapest, he had contact with the "group of socialist artists", Sándor Bortnyik, Ernő Kállai, with whom he attended the 1937 World's Fair in Paris, and Lajos Kassák. From 1936 he found employment as a textile draftsman in the company of Léo Goldberger. In 1944 he was drafted for active duty.
After the end of the Second World War he founded in 1948 in Nagymaros the painting school for workers and peasant children Nagy Balogh János following the Bauhaus principles. Between 1949 and 1962 he worked as a professor at the College of Fine Arts in Budapest.
He died in 1983.

On November 11 is the birthday of

Samuel "Sam" Joseph Haskins, British photographer, born 1926 in South Africa.
He started his career as an advertising photographer in Johannesburg in 1953. He ran what was probably the first modern freelance advertising studio in Africa. He produced commercial work across a very broad spectrum of photography from still life to industrial, fashion and aerial. His first formal creative output was a one-man show at the popular Johannesburg department store John Orrs in 1960.
Haskins is best known for his contribution to nude photography, in-camera image montage, and his books, the most influential of which were Five Girls (book) (1962), Cowboy Kate (1964) and Haskins Posters, his first colour book (1973).
In 1968 Haskins moved to London and ran a studio in Glebe Place just off the King's Road. He worked as an advertising photographer for international consumer brands, and specialised in the art direction and shooting of calendars, especially for Asahi Pentax in Japan. Although he endorsed Hasselblad for a short period in the late 1960s and early 1970s, his loyalty to the medium format 6x7 camera and lenses from Asahi resulted in a rare long-term association between a camera manufacturer and photographer.
The graphic experiments first seen in Haskins Posters and related exhibitions at London's Photographer's Gallery and National Theatre resulted in a book called Photo Graphics (1980). The title of the book coined a new term in photography that has since become widely used.
Haskins' next book, Sam Haskins á Bologna (1984), resulted from an invitation by the mayor of Bologna to photograph the city.
From 2000 to 2005, he focused on fashion photography for Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Allure and New York.
He suffered a stroke on 19 September 2009, the opening day of his exhibition to launch 'Fashion Etcetera' at Milk Gallery in New York and died at home in Bowral, Australia, nine weeks later.

Today, November 12, is the birthday of

Tracey Moffatt, Australian artist born in 1960 in Brisbane, who primarily uses photography and video.
She holds a degree in visual communications from the Queensland College of Art, graduating in 1982.
Though she is best known for her photographic works, Moffatt has created numerous films, documentaries and videos. Her work often focuses on Australian Aboriginal people and the way they are understood in cultural and social terms.
Moffatt's first work that came to public attention was the 1989 Something more series of photographic works. Something more has been described as "iconic".
Her photographic series of works such as Pet Thang (1991) and Laudanum (1998) returned to the themes of Something More exploring mixed and sometimes obscure references to issues of sexuality, history, representation and race. Other series of images, notably Scarred for Life (1994) and Scarred for Life II (1999) again tackled these themes but which referenced the photojournalism and photo essays of Life magazine accompanied by captions. While the words are compelling, they don’t explain the images, indeed they tend to add to their enigmatic nature as though more information is a further dead end.
As her work progressed over the next decade, Moffatt began to explore narratives in more gothic settings.
Her works are held in the collections of the Tate, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia and Art Gallery of New South Wales.
