Ostinelli & Priest [Cerámica / Ceramic]

Gaynor Ostinelli & Paul Priest
(Inglaterra / England)

Gaynor & Paul trabajando / at work

"Toro Winston Grande / Winston Large Bull", cerámica / ceramic, 60 x 40 cm.

Paul Priest studied graphic design, illustration and photography, working in this facet of the art world for a short time, until attending an adult education pottery course. Then he established his own studio.
Since he met Gaynor Ostinelli, they began to develop teamwork, exhibiting their work in galleries and festivals in major ceramic exhibitions across the country, as well as holding workshops and demonstrations.
Paul works mainly on modeling the work, leaving the design and research of the subjects, presentation and photography to Gaynor.

The working partnership which is Ostinelli & Priest flourishes and develops simply because the balance of understanding between artists continues to create work that both pleases and inspires. The subjects chosen are always changing because of the animal breeds that are their subjects and demand for the work to expand.
The making process begins with the construction of a form created from bubble wrap built over a rigid former. It is then that clay is applied onto the bubble wrap armature to achieve the desired subject.

The clay pieces are fired, only then is colour applied bringing further character and individuality to the work as it develops. Sculptures will be fired as many times as is necessary to achieve the required finish.
The development of the sculptures has evolved through a process of trial and error, honed in large by acceptance of the work when presented in one of our various galleries, exhibitions, and the ever growing potential of the web.
