¿Quieren los rusos la guerra?
Pregunta al silencio que se cierne,
a nuestros campos arados y nuestras llanuras.
Pregunta a los abedules, a los álamos.
Pregunta a los soldados
que ahora yacen bajo el cielo y los abedules,
y que sus hijos vuelvan a decirte
si los rusos quieren...
si los rusos quieren...
si los rusos quieren la guerra.
No sólo por la llamada de su país
cayeron los soldados en esta guerra,
sino para que toda la gente de la tierra
pueda dormir tranquila por la noche.
Sólo pregunta a quienes lucharon,
a quienes abrazaste en el Elba.
Esos monumentos son sólo para mostrar
si los rusos quieren...
si los rusos quieren...
si los rusos quieren la guerra.
Sí, podemos pelear cuando debemos,
pero no queremos respirar el polvo
de soldados valientes en cualquier circunstancia
que entregaron sus vidas antes de tiempo.

El punto culminante de los esfuerzos de Zecchin como pintor se alcanzó en 1914 con su opulenta serie de una docena de lienzos de 30 metros de largo titulada "Le Mille e una Notte" (Mil y una noches) que representa la procesión de Aladdin y su fabuloso séquito de príncipes y príncesas orientales portadores de regalos llegaron a buscar la mano de la hija del sultán. Fueron encargados para el comedor del Hotel Terminus en Venecia, pero más tarde, por desgracia, se dispersaron entre diversas colecciones públicas y privadas. Belinda Blog

The high point of Zecchin’s endeavors as a painter was reached in 1914 with his opulent 30-meter-long (100-foot) series of a dozen canvases entitled “Le Mille e una Notte” (One Thousand and One Nights) depicting the procession of Aladdin and his fabulous, gift-bearing entourage of eastern princes and princesses, arriving to seek the hand of the Sultan’s daughter. These were commissioned for the dining room of the Hotel Terminus in Venice, but later, alas, scattered between diverse public and private collections. Belinda Blog
