Richard Texier es un pintor y escultor francés nacido en 1955 cerca del embarcadero de La Garette, un pequeño pueblo de Marais Poitevin. Vive y trabaja en París.
Empezó a pintar a una edad temprana, y su gran interés en la historia de la astronomía inspiró en gran medida la creación de su propia cosmografía personal.
Se graduó en arte y arquitectura en la École Spéciale D'architecture, y más tarde recibió un doctorado en artes plásticas en la Sorbona.
En 1979 se trasladó a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde inició una estrategia de creación nómada que llamó "Talleres Nómadas". Esta estrategia le permitió posteriormente expandir el espacio de su taller a lugares de todo el mundo.
Para Richard "Ser un artista es inventar un proceso de pensamiento mágico cuyo objetivo es expresar una visión singular del mundo."

La tentación es incontrolable.
¿Cómo podemos evitar recordar el rinoceronte de Durero, esa criatura "ataviada con encaje" de Dalí, el epítome de un animal y símbolo universal, que ha marcado nuestra conciencia e imaginación? Richard Texier da un giro al abordar el tema con una versión bionizada. Un tour de force técnico, un juego entre lleno y vacío, otorga a esta escultura una notable ligereza. La flexibilidad del cuerpo, a través de la cual fluyen el aire y la luz, juega con los atributos del animal original, su cuerpo masivo con sus cortas patas gordas y su piel gruesa. El mamífero es trascendido, sublimado, desmaterializado. La metamorfosis funciona: el animal de dedos extraños se vuelve divino a medida que se funde con el bestiario místico del artista.

«Tener tal intimidad con la naturaleza me ha alejado de la realidad social, y me ha permitido desarrollar simultáneamente una profunda agudeza hacia los principios esenciales de la vida. Esto podría haberme convertido en una persona desconectada de la sociedad, si a una edad muy temprana el arte no me hubiera salvado.
A mis ojos la naturaleza es el único modelo a recibir. Deberíamos modelar todos nuestros comportamientos de acuerdo con la naturaleza; la naturaleza es nuestra matriz y dicta la elaboración de nuestra visión del mundo.»
Una cosa horroriza a Richard: el tratamiento de los animales y la naturaleza en muchos países.
«Ahí está el verdadero peligro. Si continuamos así, muchos países experimentarán el síndrome de la Isla de Pascua. En unas pocas décadas se habrán convertido en guijarros, sin vida animal y vegetal.»

«Llamo a este mítico animal "Mundo rinoceronte". Es un gran rinoceronte en el que coloqué un globo, un mundo ... su mundo, compuesto de varias piezas del cuerpo del animal. Esta escultura es una metáfora: la del camino único de la vida para cada uno de nosotros.
Utilizamos partes simbólicas de nosotros mismos: habilidades, talento y educación, patrimonio cultural y material, para crear la sociedad en la que viviremos. Es esta reconstrucción de nosotros mismos la que nos permite crear el planeta personal en el que vivimos. Por lo tanto, este no es solo un animal mítico, sino que también evoca el desarrollo mítico que tiene lugar dentro de cada uno de nosotros. Porque lo cierto es que la razón de nuestro camino en la vida es tan simbólica como real.»

«I call this mythical animal “Mundo rhino”. It’s a large rhinoceros on which I placed a globe, a world…its world, made up of various pieces from the animal’s body. This sculpture is a metaphor : that of life’s unique path for each of us.
We use symbolic parts of ourselves – skills, talent and education; both a cultural and material heritage – to create the society in which we will live. It is this reconstruction of ourselves that enables us to create the personal planet on which we live. Therefore, this is not just a mythical animal, but also evokes the mythical unfolding taking place within each one of us. For it is true, that the reason for our path in life is as symbolic as it is real.»

«Vendí mi primer cuadro a los 16 años a una señora llamada Brivin, una mujer muy elegante cuyo ojo había sido atrapado por algo en el cuadro de ese joven, y que decidió comprarlo para alentar sus ánimos."
Sobre su proceso creativo, Richard ha dicho:
«Esta es una pregunta muy compleja. Uno de los principios es siempre experimentar, evolucionar, no tratar de tener absolutamente un estilo reconocible; si la evolución es genuina, el estilo aparecerá por sí solo.»

"Evocando una sed renacentista de conocimiento, Texier está involucrado con las metamorfosis y la 'hibridación'. Desde el año 2000 comenzó a centrarse en la escultura, utilizando los animales en particular como interpretaciones de una psique desenfrenada. A través de este medio transmite una fuerte influencia astrológica. Las enigmáticas presencias de estas poderosas esculturas conllevan así un elemento de primitivismo tribal. Dominan el espacio sobre el que se elevan como los monumentos paganos de los antiguos. Sus auras arden con el misticismo, los símbolos de culto, sus sombras animadas a la luz de las esculturas. Sin embargo, por mucho que se basen en un pasado lejano, las esculturas de Texier son señales".

Desgarradas, atravesadas, cortadas por el viento y la luz, las obras de la serie Bionics son la expresión de un concepto artístico y sensible donde la vida... la "bionización" de las formas, está en el centro del proceso creativo.
Richard Texier emplea a propósito un lenguaje innovador para expresar la permanencia de la vida orgánica. La concepción de estructuras suaves y flexibles, acunadas en una atmósfera armoniosa, permite que la forma capte el elemento fugaz y mercurial de nuestra existencia humana. El artista ha roto todos los límites estructurales, anatómicos o figurativos para inventar formas más fluidas y flotantes, al borde de lo inmaterial.
La singularidad de estas piezas también resulta de un ambiente de metamorfosis y mutación que emana de cada pieza, y del deseo de capturar la naturaleza divina y permanente de lo viviente ofreciendo una visión "bionizada" de los animales.

Sus obras se encuentran en numerosas e importantes colecciones públicas y privadas, tanto en Francia como en el extranjero. Muchos de los principales museos del mundo han expuesto sus obras, entre ellos el Museo Nacional de Taiwán, el Museo Nacional de Luxemburgo, el Museo Marino de París, el Museo Botánico de Bruselas, la Casa de la Cultura de Moscú y el Museo de Bellas Artes de Shanghai.

Richard Texier is a French painter and sculptor born in 1955 near the La Garette jetty, in the small town of Marais Poitevin. He lives and works in Paris.
He began painting at a young age and his keen interest in the history of astronomy largely inspired the creation of his own personnel cosmography.
He graduated with a degree in art and architecture from the École spéciale d'architecture and later received a doctorate in plastic art from the Sorbonne.
In 1979, Texier moved to New York City, where he initiated a nomadic strategy of creation which he called "Nomadic Workshops". This strategy subsequently enabled him to multiply his workshop space to venues all over the world.
For Richard "To be an artist, is to invent a magic thought process whose goal is to express a singular vision of the world."

Temptation is uncontrollable.
How can we avoid remembering Dürer’s Rhinoceros, that creature “decked out in lace” by Dalí, the epitome of an animal and universal symbol, that’s marked our consciousness and imagination? Richard Texier takes a swing at tackling the theme with a bionized version. A technical tour de force, a game between full and empty, lends this sculpture a remarkable lightness. The suppleness of the body, which air and light flow through, plays on the attributes of the original animal, its massive body with short,
fat legs and its thick skin. The mammal is transcended, sublimed, dematerialized. The metamorphosis works, the odd-toed animal becomes divine as it blends into the artist’s mystical bestiary.

«Being so intimate with nature has pushed me further aside from social reality, and allowed me to develop simultaneously a profound acuity towards the essential principles of life. This could have turned me into a person disconnected from society, if at a very young age art had not saved me.
In my eyes nature is the only receivable model. We should really model all our behaviours in accordance with nature; nature is our matrix and dictates the elaboration of our vision of the world.»
One thing horrifies Richard: the treatment of animals and nature in many countries.
«Therein lies the real danger. If we continue like this, many countries will experience Easter Island syndrome. In a few decades, they will be pebbles without animal and plant life.»

About his creative process, Richard told:
«This is a very complex question. One of the principles is to always experiment, evolve, not try to absolutely have got a recognisable style; if the evolution is genuine, style will appear on its own.»

Una metáfora del arte, esta criatura híbrida montada en lo que parece un carro, como un dios romano, ilustra el arte en movimiento. Presentado con un toque de ironía, el animal nos recuerda las vanguardias del mundo que, desde el siglo XX, han jugado un papel precursor en el escenario artístico.
A metaphor of art, this hybrid creature riding on what looks like a chariot, like some Roman god, illustrates art in movement. Presented with a touch of irony, the animal reminds us of the avant-gardes of the world who, since the 20th Century, have played a precursory role on the artistic stage.

"Evoking a Renaissance-esque thirst for knowledge, Texier is involved with metamorphoses and 'hybridisation'. Since 2000, Texier began focusing on sculpture, using animals in particular as interpretations of the unbridled psyche. Through this means he conveys a strong astrological influence. The enigmatic presences of these powerful sculptures thus bear an element of tribal primitivism. They command the space in which they stand much like the pagan monuments of the ancients. Their aura burns with mysticism, cult symbols, their shadows animated as the sculptures are lit. However as much as they are grounded in the distant past, Texier’s sculptures are marks."

Torn open, pierced, cut through by wind and light, the works comprising the Bionics series are the expression of a sensitive, artistic concept where life…the “bionization” of shapes, is at the core of the creative process.
Richard Texier purposefully employs an innovative language to express the permanence of organic life. The conception of smooth and flexible structures, cradled in a harmonious atmosphere, allows the shape to capture the fleeting, mercurial element of our human existence. The artist has broken away from any structural, anatomical or figurative limits to invent more fluid and buoyant shapes, on the edge of the immaterial.
The uniqueness of these pieces also results from an ambiance of metamorphosis and mutation that exudes from each piece, and from the desire to capture the divine and permanent nature of the living by offering a “bionized” vision of animals.

His works can be found in numerous important public and private collections, both in France and abroad. Many major museums around the world have exhibited his work including the National museum of Taiwan, the National museum of Luxemburg, the Marine Museum in Paris, the Botanical museum of Brussels, the House of Culture Moscow and the Shanghai museum of Fine Art.
