Inga es una arquitecta lituana nacida en Kaunas, que desde hace más de doce años reside en Ankara, Turquía.
En los últimos tiempos ha venido desarrollando una interesante propuesta artística basada en la acuarela. Utiliza una técnica poco habitual, complementado la acuarela con grafito, tinta, pan de oro y pintura, lo hace de sus piezas algo singular.
Recientemente publiqué una selección de su obra. Les dejo ahora sus simpáticos y originales rinocerontes.

Inga is a Lithuanian architect born in Kaunas, who has been living in Ankara, Turkey for more than twelve years.
In recent times she has been developing an interesting artistic proposal based on watercolor. She uses an unusual technique of complementing watercolor with graphite, ink, gold leaf and paint, giving it its uniqueness.

Tino Luciano

Tino Luciano es un artista italiano nacido en Cerdeña en 1953, que comenzó a pintar a una edad muy temprana. Su personalidad tímida, a veces enigmática, le ha mantenido a menudo alejado, a pesar de la presión, de las exposiciones oficiales. Sus exposiciones personales, hasta ahora, han sido escasas. En una época en la que se peca por exceso de comunicación, a veces carente de contenido real, Luciano aparece como un artista inusual. La sugerencia de las corrientes surrealistas y metafísicas del siglo que acaba de pasar es lo que reconocemos inmediatamente entre las referencias culturales que nutren la imaginería del artista. Pero, en un nivel más profundo, comprendemos el extraordinario amor por el arte del Renacimiento europeo que, aunque sin tener nunca citas directas, impregna de manera impalpable pero evidente todas sus obras. Viven en una dimensión espacio-temporal que sólo tiene vínculos aparentes con la realidad: son más bien concepciones poéticas e intelectuales, en las que las imágenes se configuran como metáforas con múltiples significados. Tino Luciano is an Italian artist born in Sardinia in 1953, who began painting very young. His shy personality, sometimes enigmatic, has often kept him away, despite pressure, from official exhibitions. His personal exhibitions, so far, have been rare. In an era that sins for excess communication, sometimes lacking in real content, Luciano appears as an unusual artist. The suggestion of the surrealist and metaphysical currents of the century that has just passed is what we immediately recognize among the cultural references that nourish the artist's imagerie. But, on a deeper level, we can grasp the extraordinary love for the art of the European Renaissance that, though never having direct quotations, permeates in an impalpable yet evident way all his works. They live in a space-time dimension that has only apparent links with reality: they are rather poetic and intellectual conceptions, in which images are configured as metaphors with multiple meanings. Ya he publicado más de una vez sobre la obra de Vladimir Kush, y tenía pendiente la inclusión de esta con un magnífico rinoceronte. En la página dedicada a la misma en la web de Vladimir puede leerse:
"El rinoceronte es un destacado representante de la fauna africana. En el grabado de Alberto Durero (1515), es un caballero vestido con una armadura de pies a cabeza, con el cuerno apuntando hacia abajo, listo para atacar. Esta pintura es una especie de antítesis de esa formidable y agresiva representación. Aquí, el rinoceronte podría ser considerado un animal autorreflexivo.
Su aspecto algo tímido nos dice que no está nada seguro de sus nobles orígenes. ¿Qué diría el autor de esa clasificación universal, Carl Linneo? Teniendo en cuenta la multitud de características de identificación, ¿en qué género, especie o "reino" lo colocaría Linneo?
Esas características se detallan en la profusión de pergaminos que cubren el cuerpo del rinoceronte. Además, como sabemos por los principios establecidos por el científico, sólo las características significativas pueden ser utilizadas para la clasificación; el peso y el tamaño, por ejemplo, no sirven.
En el cuadro también vemos a un cazador con su rifle; es el famoso explorador africano David Livingstone que vivió un siglo después de Carl Linneo. Experto en África, quizás Livingstone le está contando a Linneo sobre los temperamentos y hábitos de los animales africanos en general, y de uno tan formidable como el rinoceronte en particular.
Este diálogo entre estas dos grandes personas (el científico y el explorador) podría hacer una gran contribución a nuestro conocimiento de la fauna mundial y ayudar a completar la clasificación de los animales."

I have already published more than once about Vladimir Kush's work, and I had pending the inclusion of this painting with a magnificent rhinoceros. In the page dedicated to it in Vladimir's website you can read:
"The rhinoceros is an outstanding representative of African fauna. In the etching by Albrecht Dürer (1515), it is a knight clad in armor from head to toe, poised with horn pointing downward, ready to attack. This painting is a kind of antithesis to that formidable and aggressive representation. Here, the rhinoceros could be called a self-reflecting animal.
His somewhat bashful looks tell us that he is not at all sure of his noble origins. What would the author of that universal classification, Carl Linnaeus, say? Taking into account the multitude of identification characteristics, in what genus, species, or "kingdom" would Linnaeus place him?
Those characteristics are detailed in the profusion of scrolls covering the rhino's body. Besides, as we know from the principles set out by the scientist, only significant characteristics can be used for classification; weight and size, for example, will not do.
In the painting, we also see a hunter with his rifle – it is the famous African explorer David Livingstone who lived a century after Carl Linnaeus. An expert on Africa, perhaps Livingstone is telling Linnaeus about the temperaments and habits of African animals in general, and of such a formidable one as the rhinoceros in particular.
This dialogue between these two great people – the scientist and the explorer – could make a great contribution to our knowledge of world fauna and help complete the classification of animals."

Claus Larsen

Claus Larsen nació en Copenhague en 1954. Empezó a pintar temprano y a exponer en galerías de Copenhague. Al mismo tiempo se sintió atraído por la medicina, y se graduó en Medicina y Cirugía en la Universidad de Copenhague. Luego se mudó a Milán para trabajar como ilustrador médico y científico, conciliando así su interés por el arte y la medicina. La enseñanza de la ilustración científica se convirtió en un interés adicional. Desde principios de los 90 ha sido invitado a dar conferencias en las universidades de Milán, Bolonia, Lucerna y Zurich. En 2007 Zanichelli publicó su libro "Anatomía artística", utilizando tecnología digital como los gráficos en 3-D para permitir al lector investigar la anatomía a través de modelos volumétricos altamente realistas. De 2007 a 2013 ha sido presidente de AEIMS, la Asociación Europea de Ilustradores Médicos y Científicos. En 2009 Claus Larsen decidió empezar a exhibir sus obras artísticas, y ha realizado exposiciones con galerías en Italia y en el extranjero.

Claus Larsen was born in Copenhagen in 1954. He started painting early and showing in galleries in Copenhagen. At the same time, he was drawn to medicine, and graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Copenhagen. He then moved to Milan to work as a medical and scientific illustrator, thus reconciling his interest in art and medicine. Teaching scientific illustration became a further interest. Since the early 90's he has been invited to lecture at universities in Milan, Bologna, Lucerne and Zurich. In 2007, Zanichelli published his book "Artistic Anatomy", using digital technology like 3-D graphics to allow the reader to investigate anatomy through higly realistic volumetric models. From 2007 to 2013 he has been president of AEIMS, the European Association of Medical and Scientific Illustrators. In 2009 Claus Larsen decided to start showing his art work, and he has had exhibitions with galleries in Italy and abroad.

Marc Alexander es un artista sudafricano nacido en Pretoria. Se graduó y trabajó como tecnólogo de museos y curador del Museo de Arte de Pretoria. Pinta mayormente al óleo en un estilo realista tradicional, pero también disfruta combinando el arte del dorado y las texturas en sus pinturas. Su objetivo es siempre capturar y expresar temas y cuestiones sobre nuestro mundo y la condición humana, especialmente aquellos que desafían la forma en que vivimos.
Su interés en el arte comenzó cuando, siendo un niño, descubrió la habilidad de replicar en el lienzo con exactitud lo que veía en la naturaleza. En diciembre de 1994 comenzó su carrera como tecnólogo del Museo de Arte de Pretoria y a las dos semanas comenzó a reproducir una pintura de un maestro holandés del siglo XVII. Desde entonces ha hecho réplicas casi perfectas de algunas grandes piezas. También fue durante este tiempo que comenzó un trabajo entre los huérfanos y los niños vulnerables de la calle, usando el arte como medio de curación. Esto se convirtió en una organización sin fines de lucro muy exitosa llamada "Los Niños del Arte Tshwane" que ayudó en la rehabilitación y curación de muchos niños.

Marc Alexander is a South African artist born in Pretoria. He qualified and worked as a Museum Technologist and Curator for the Pretoria Art Museum. He paints mostly in oils in the style of the traditional realist, but he also enjoys combining the art of gilding and texturing in his paintings. He aims always to capture and express subjects and themes about our world and the human condition, especially those themes that challenge the way we live.
His interest in art started when as a young child, he discovered an ability to replicate on canvas with accuracy what he saw in nature. In December 1994 began his career as the Museum Technologist at the Pretoria Art Museum and within two weeks began a reproduction of a 17th Century Dutch Master’s painting. Since that time he has made near-perfect replicas of some great pieces. It was also during this time that he started a work amongst orphans and vulnerable street children, using art as a medium for healing. This turned into a very successful not-for-profit organization called ‘The Tshwane Art Kids’ which brought healing and restoration to many Children.

Ciro Palumbo, nacido en Suiza en 1965, no es sólo un pintor, sino de hecho un poeta que reflexiona, actúa y compone para combinar metáforas sobre lo inabarcable del tiempo y lo inconmensurable del espacio, mostrando así su capacidad para profundizar en la observación, no tanto de la naturaleza, sino de las impresiones imaginativas que provienen de la memoria. Curioso investigador y estudioso, también ha estado trabajando durante algunos años en el tema del Mito, interpretando la mitología clásica en una clave exquisitamente moderna, y dando una lectura profundamente culta y evocadora de la misma. El artista logra así sublimar y contextualizar los mitos antiguos en espacios fuera del tiempo, demostrando su contemporaneidad.
Su formación como diseñador gráfico publicitario le llevó a trabajar durante años como Director de Arte en agencias de publicidad en Turín. Fue durante este período que descubrió y expandió sus habilidades visuales y de composición. Posteriormente la experiencia en un taller de arte moderno y el conocimiento de algunos Maestros contemporáneos lo llevaron a profundizar en la técnica de la pintura al óleo con veladuras. En los últimos años el artista también se ha dedicado con éxito a la escultura, dando tridimensionalidad, a través de la terracota, a los tropos de su poética. Fuente

Ciro Palumbo, born in Switzerland in 1965, is not only a painter, but in fact a poet who reflects, acts, and composes, to combine metaphors about the elusiveness of time and the immeasurability of space, thus showing his ability to deepen the observation, not so much of nature as of the imaginative impressions that come from memory. A curious researcher and scholar, he has also been working for some years on the theme of Myth, interpreting classical mythology in an exquisitely modern key, and giving a deeply cultured and evocative reading of it. The artist thus manages to sublimate and contextualize ancient myths in spaces outside of time, demonstrating their contemporaneity.
His training as an advertising graphic designer led him to practice for years as Art Director in advertising agencies in Turin. It was during this period that he discovered and expanded his visual and compositional skills. Subsequently, the experience in a modern art workshop and the knowledge of some contemporary Masters, led him to deepen the technique of oil painting with glaze. In recent years the artist has also successfully dedicated himself to sculpture, giving three-dimensionality, through terracotta, to the tropes of his poetics. Source

«Artist in heart, I painted first works in my early teens. Estudió en la Universidad Adam Mickiewicz, en Poznan (1980-83), y en la Universidad de Wrocław (1980-85).

Roberta Ubaldi

Roberta Ubaldi es una artista italiana nacida en 1965.
Se graduó en el Instituto de Arte "O. Metelli", Terni. Después de investigar las diversas técnicas clásicas, llegó, progresivamente, a desarrollar un estilo propio bien definido, caracterizado por una técnica extrema y una paleta muy reducida. La continua investigación de diferentes materiales ha llevado a Roberta Ubaldi a utilizar planchas de hierro en las que la oxidación creada por el tiempo supera el estatus de mero soporte, para convertirse en una parte esencial de la obra pictórica. El amor por el cuerpo humano lleva a Ubaldi a representaciones de una matriz deliberadamente figurativa que aún parecen querer esconderse en una trama de oxidación que habla del tiempo y la memoria.

Roberta Ubaldi is an Italian artist born in 1965.
She graduated from the Art Institute "O. Metelli", Terni. After investigating the various classical techniques, she progressively developed her own well-defined style, characterized by extreme technique and a very reduced palette. The continuous research of different materials has led Roberta Ubaldi to use iron plates in which the oxidation created by time exceeds the status of mere support, to become an essential part of the pictorial work. The love for the human body leads Ubaldi to representations of a deliberately figurative matrix that still seem to want to hide in a plot of oxidation that speaks of time and memory.
