El panel central con la mujer desnuda mirándose a un espejo de mano es la personificación de la Vanidad, tal como se popularizará más adelante. Se trata de un desnudo integral, algo extremadamente raro en el arte contemporáneo, y muy erótico. La joven lleva la larga melena suelta con una fina diadema enjoyada que destaca junto con las sandalias que calza, mostrándose sin el menor pudor, una alegoría de la Vanidad y la Lujuria. A sus pies hay tres perros, un grifón a la izquierda que habitualmente representa el matrimonio y el amor conyugal, y a la derecha detrás dos galgos jugueteando, simbolizando la lujuria. Al fondo, un camino frondoso y un molino, insinuando el camino del pecado. El hecho de otorgar a esta figura la posición central es muy novedosa.

The central panel with the naked woman looking at herself in a hand mirror is the embodiment of Vanity, as it will become popular later. It is a complete nude, something extremely rare in contemporary art, and very erotic. The young woman wears her long loose hair with a fine jeweled headband that stands out together with the sandals she wears, showing herself without the slightest embarrassment, an allegory of Vanity and Lust. At her feet there are three dogs, a griffon on the left that usually represents marriage and conjugal love, and on the right behind two greyhounds playing, symbolizing lust. In the background, a leafy path and a mill, hinting at the path of sin. The fact of giving this figure the central position is very novel.

Julius LeBlanc Stewart fue un artista estadounidense que desarrolló su carrera en París. Contemporáneo del pintor expatriado John Singer Sargent, Stewart fue apodado "el parisino de Filadelfia".
Su padre, el millonario del azúcar William Hood Stewart, trasladó a la familia de Filadelfia, Pensilvania, a París en 1865, y se convirtió en un distinguido coleccionista de arte y en uno de los primeros mecenas de Marià Fortuny y los artistas de Barbizon. Julius estudió con Eduardo Zamacois en su adolescencia, con Jean-Léon Gérôme en la École des Beaux-Arts, y más tarde fue alumno de Raymundo de Madrazo.

Julius LeBlanc Stewart was an American artist who spent his career in Paris. A contemporary of fellow expatriate painter John Singer Sargent, Stewart was nicknamed "the Parisian from Philadelphia".
His father, the sugar millionaire William Hood Stewart, moved the family from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Paris in 1865, and became a distinguished art collector and an early patron of Marià Fortuny and the Barbizon artists. Julius studied under Eduardo Zamacois as a teenager, under Jean-Léon Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Arts, and later was a pupil of Raymondo de Madrazo.
Stewart's family wealth enabled him to live a lush expatriate life and paint what he pleased, often large-scaled group portraits.
He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1878 into the early 20th century, and helped organize the "Americans in Paris" section of the 1894 Salon.
Late in life, he turned to religious subjects, but Stewart is best remembered for his Belle Époque society portraits and sensuous nudes.
He died in 1919.

Théodore Levigne

Théodore Levigne fue un pintor francés nacido en Noirétable en 1848.
Su familia se mudó a Lyon, al distrito de Saint-Jean, en 1856. Théodore estudió en la Escuela Nacional Superior de Bellas Artes de Lyon de 1860 a 1862.
En 1865 expuso en el Grand Palais de París. Dos años más tarde se fue a Marsella, y se embarcó hacia Italia, donde estudió la técnica del fresco. Me mantuvo vendiendo sus dibujos.
Durante la guerra fue herido por un proyectil. Regresó a Lyon para ver a su madre y se alistó como voluntario en la 1ª legión del Ródano. Durante la campaña realizó dibujos que todo lo que veía.
Murió en 1912.

Théodore Levigne was a French painter, born in Noirétable in 1848.
His family moved to Lyon, in the district of Saint-Jean, in 1856. Théodore studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon from 1860 to 1862.
In 1865 he exhibited at the Grand Palais in Paris. Two years later he went to Marseilles, and embarked for Italy, where he studied the technique of fresco. He make a living selling his drawings.
During the war he was wounded by a shell. He returned to Lyon to see his mother and joined the 1st Legion of the Rhone as a volunteer. During the campaign he made drawings that everything he saw.
He died in 1912.

He finished Izmir Işılay Saygın Fine Arts High School. He graduated from the Painting Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in 2007. During his second year at the Faculty, he studied at the Devrim Erbil's workshop.
Kutlay has had solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Turkey.

George Policroníadis es un pintor griego nacido en Atenas en 1946.
Después de un período de estudios libres, entró en la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes de Atenas estudiando pintura bajo la supervisión del prof. Nikos Nikolaou. También ha estudiado y colaborado con el pintor griego Yiannis Tsarouchis.
Sus temas tratan principalmente de la figura humana, bodegones y paisajes. Se entrega a los secretos de la técnica de la pintura al óleo y las cualidades del color y su maestría en El dibujo es asombroso basado en sus estudios clásicos e influenciado por el arte griego antiguo, la pintura del Renacimiento y la Belle Epoque. George Polichroniadis is a Greek painter born in Athens in 1946.
After a period of free studies, he entered the National School of Fine Arts in Athens studying painting under the supervision of prof. Nikos Nikolaou. He has also studied and collaborated with the Greek painter Yiannis Tsarouchis.
His themes mostly deal with the human figure, still life as well as landscapes. He indulges in the secrets of the oil painting technique and the qualities of colour and his mastery in drawing is amazing based on his classical studies and influenced by the ancient Greek art, the Renaissance painting and Belle Epoque. His works of art are characterized by intense realism with emphasis on classical forms.

Ernst Liebermann

Ernst Liebermann fue un pintor, artista gráfico e ilustrador alemán, nacido en Langemüß en 1869.
Se formó en la Academia de Artes de Berlín de 1890 a 1893 con Josef Scheurenberg. Después de viajes de estudio a través de Alemania, Italia y una larga estancia en París, estuvo principalmente activo en Langemüß y a partir de 1897 en Munich donde trabajó como ilustrador.
Litografió numerosas "vedutas" de la ciudad y el campo, y sólo más tarde se dedicó a la pintura. Sus numerosas pinturas impresionistas (retratos, desnudos, paisajes) eran en su mayoría de colores cálidos y terrosos con un toque romántico.
Durante un tiempo también trabajó en la revista de Munich "Jugend". En el Künstlerbund Bayern fue miembro del jurado y primer secretario. También fue presidente del "Bund zeichnender Künstler" y miembro del "Luitpoldgruppe" de Munich.
Como miembro de pleno derecho del "Deutscher Künstlerbund", Liebermann estuvo constantemente representado con obras en el "Glaspalast" y recibió la 2ª medalla de oro en 1913. Sus pinturas se encuentran hoy en día en la Städtische Galerie Rosenheim y en muchos otros museos.

Ernst Liebermann was a German painter, graphic artist and illustrator, born in 1869 in Langemüß.
Liebermann received his training at the Berlin Academy of Arts from 1890 to 1893 under Josef Scheurenberg. After study trips through Germany, Italy and a long stay in Paris, he was mainly active in Langemüß and from 1897 in Munich where he worked as an illustrator.
He lithographed numerous city and country 'vedute' and only later turned to painting. His numerous Impressionist paintings - portraits, nudes, landscapes - were mostly in warm earth colors with a romantic touch.
For a time he also collaborated on the Munich magazine "Jugend". In the Künstlerbund Bayern he was a member of the jury and 1st secretary. He was also chairman in the "Bund zeichnender Künstler" and a member of the Munich "Luitpoldgruppe".
As a full member of the German Artists' Association Liebermann was constantly represented with works in the Glaspalast and received the 2nd gold medal in 1913. His paintings can be found today in the Städtische Galerie Rosenheim and many other museums.
He died in 1960.

William Malherbe fue un pintor francés postimpresionista nacido en 1884 en la ciudad medieval de Senlis, al norte de París, y fue muy conocido tanto en los Estados Unidos como en Europa por sus bellas y coloridas naturalezas muertas, escenas al aire libre y desnudos.
El éxito artístico de Malherbe se produjo en los años 30 cuando expuso en el Salón de Otoño y después fue acogido por la galería Durand-Ruel, la famosa galería parisina cuya fortuna se había hecho con el apoyo de los impresionistas.
En 1939, a los 55 años, emigró a la ciudad de Nueva York y expuso en el Corcoran de Washington D.C. Más tarde se trasladó a una granja en Thetford, Vermont, hasta 1948.
Sus exposiciones en la Galería Corcoran tuvieron mucho éxito, y sus coloridas escenas postimpresionistas de Vermont y Gloucester, llenas de luz y de placer pintado, siguen siendo muy solicitadas. Algunos incluso consideran a William Malherbe como un artista estadounidense, pero su obra está esencialmente enraizada en la tradición francesa postimpresionista de Bonnard y el Renoir tardío.

William Malherbe was a French Post impressionist painter born in 1884 in the medieval town of Senlis just north of Paris and was well known both in the U.S. and in Europe for his beautiful and colorful still lives, outdoor scenes, and nudes.
Malherbe's artistic success came the 1930s when he exhibited at Salon d'Automne and after he was taken up in by the gallery Durand-Ruel, the famous Parisian gallery whose fortune had been made by its backing of the Impressionists.
In 1939, at the age of 55, William Malherbe emigrated to New York City and exhibited at the Corcoran in Washington D.C. He later moved to a farm in Thetford, Vermont until 1948.
His exhibitions at the Corcoran Gallery were highly successful, and his colourful post-Impressionist Vermont and Gloucester scenes, full of light and paint-flecked pleasure, are still highly sought-after. Some even consider William Malherbe an American artist, but his work is essentially rooted in the French post-Impressionist tradition of Bonnard and late Renoir.
He preferred to paint on wood rather than canvas, and refused to varnish any of his work until at least ten years had passed, believing that oil paint took that long to completely dry.
He returned to France in 1948 and died there in 1955.

Arno Rink fue un pintor alemán, profesor universitario y rector de la Academia de Artes Visuales de Leipzig, nacido en 1940.
En 1961 presentó su primera solicitud en la Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (Academia de Artes Plásticas de Leipzig), pero fue rechazada. En su segundo intento, al año siguiente, fue admitido, y comenzó a estudiar allí, realizando sus estudios básicos con Werner Tübke, Hans Mayer-Foreyt y Harry Blume. En 1967 estudió con Bernhard Heisig, y posteriormente trabajó como artista independiente en Leipzig.
En 1969 trabajó con Gerhard Eichhorn (artes gráficas) en la Academia, donde comenzó a enseñar en 1972. Desde entonces realizó varios viajes a la Unión Soviética, Italia, India, Cuba, y varias veces a la entonces República Federal de Alemania, entre otros lugares.
De 1978 a 2005 asumió la dirección de la clase especializada en pintura y artes gráficas, se le concedió una cátedra en 1979, y de 1987 a 1994 ocupó el cargo de rector de la Academia. Posteriormente se desempeñó como vicerrector hasta 1997, convirtiéndose en profesor emérito en 2005. Continuó impartiendo clases magistrales hasta 2007.
Murió en 2017.

Arno Rink was a German painter, university professor and rector of the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, born in 1940.
In 1961 he submitted his first application to the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig), but it was rejected. On his second attempt, the following year, he was admitted, and began to study there, doing his basic studies with Werner Tübke, Hans Mayer-Foreyt and Harry Blume. In 1967 he studied with Bernhard Heisig, and later worked as a freelance artist in Leipzig.
In 1969 he worked with Gerhard Eichhorn (graphic arts) at the Academy, where he began teaching in 1972. Since then he made several trips to the Soviet Union, Italy, India, Cuba, and several times to the then Federal Republic of Germany, among other places.
From 1978 to 2005 he was head of the class specializing in painting and graphic arts, was awarded a professorship in 1979, and from 1987 to 1994 he was the rector of the Academy. He then served as vice-rector until 1997, becoming professor emeritus in 2005. He continued to teach master classes until 2007.
He died in 2017.

Shelley Amsel is an American figurative painter with roots in the German Expressionist movement of the 20th century. Particularly, she has been influenced by the paintings of Der Blaue Reiter and Die Brucke group.
To gain emotion in her paintings she rely on her fantasy life and dreams to create figures and content. This results in distorted figures and very primitive content. The power from these personal paintings come from tapping into her most primitive self. She humorously call herslf an “id painter”.

Anatoli Rafailovich Brusilovsky (Анатолий Рафаилови Брусиловский) es un pintor, artista gráfico y fotógrafo ucraniano nacido en 1932.
Se graduó en el Instituto Kharkov en 1957. En 1961 ilustró el libro "El puente de Manfred Gregor" y en 1964 "El guardián en el centeno" de J. D. Salinger.
Ha producido ensamblajes, collages, fotografías, pinturas y grabados. Perteneció a los inconformistas rusos, que formaron un movimiento contrario al realismo socialista durante el período del deshielo de la Unión Soviética.

Anatoli Rafailovich Brusilovsky (Анатолий Рафаилови Брусиловский) is a Ukrainian painter, graphic artist and photographer born in 1932.
He graduated from Kharkov Institute in 1957. In 1961 he illustrated the book "Manfred Gregor's Bridge" and in 1964 "The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger.
He has produced assemblages, collages, photographs, paintings and prints. He belonged to the Russian nonconformists, who formed a movement against socialist realism during the Khrushchev Thaw period of the Soviet Union.

Kasper Niehaus fue un pintor, dibujante, autor, crítico de arte, muralista y coleccionista de arte holandés, nacido en Groningen en 1889.
Niehaus estudió en la Academia Minerva de Groningen, en el Instituut voor Kunstnijverheidsonderwijs y en la Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, ambas en Ámsterdam.
Sus temas fueron la representación de figuras, paisajes fluviales, paisajes, autorretratos, desnudos y vistas de pueblos. Sus formas son muy definidas y estilizadas, los colores son ligeros y enrarecidos. Trabajó principalmente en Ámsterdam y Bergen, donde perteneció al grupo de la Escuela Bergense. Fue miembro del KunstenaarsCentrumBergen (KCB).
Fue un crítico de arte adjunto al diario De Telegraaf y escribió varios libros en el campo del arte.

Kasper Niehaus was a Dutch painter, draughtsman, author, art critic, wall painter and art collector, born in Groningen in 1889.
Niehaus studied at the Academie Minerva in Groningen, the Instituut voor Kunstnijverheidsonderwijs and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten both in Amsterdam.
His subjects were figure depictions, river landscapes, landscapes, self-portraits, nudes and village views. His shapes are tightly defined and stylized, the colors are light and rarefied. He worked mainly in Amsterdam and Bergen (NH) where he belonged to the group of the Bergense School. He was a member of the KunstenaarsCentrumBergen (KCB).
Kasper Niehaus was an art critic attached to the daily newspaper De Telegraaf and wrote several books in the field of art.
