"Las dos coronas / The Two Crowns"
Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 231,1 x 182,3 cm., 1900
Tate Gallery (Londres, Reino Unido / London, UK)

Portrait of Mrs Austin MacKenzie"
Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 127 x 101 cm., 1918. Sotheby's

colour print, ink and watercolour on paper, 43,1 x 53,6 cm., c.1795-1805.
Tate Gallery (Londres, Reino Unido / London, UK)

"Nabucodonosor / Nebuchadnezzar"
Impresión a color, tinta y acuarela sobre papel /
colour print, ink and watercolour on paper, 54,3 × 72,5 cm., c.1795/c.1805
Tate Gallery (Londres, Reino Unido / London, UK)

Death of the Strong Wicked Man, from The Grave, a Poem by Robert Blair"
Grabado / engraving, 20,6 x 26 cm., 1808
Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) (Nueva York, EE.UU./ NY, USA)

Commissioned as a pendant to MR 1804 representing Atalanta, for the decoration of the park of Marly, transferred in 1798 to the Tuileries Gardens.

On November 27 is the birthday of

Sir Francis Bernard "Frank" Dicksee, English Victorian painter and illustrator born in London in 1853, best known for his pictures of dramatic literary, historical, and legendary scenes. He also was a noted painter of portraits of fashionable women, which helped to bring him success in his own time.
Dicksee's father, Thomas Dicksee, was a painter who taught Frank as well as his sister Margaret from a young age. Dicksee enrolled in the Royal Academy in 1870 and achieved early success. He was elected to the Academy in 1891 and became its President in 1924. He was knighted in 1925, and named to the Royal Victorian Order by King George V in 1927.
Dicksee painted The Funeral of a Viking (1893; Manchester Art Gallery), which was donated in 1928 by Arthur Burton in memory of his mother to the Corporation of Manchester. Victorian critics gave it both positive and negative reviews, for its perfection as a showpiece and for its dramatic and somewhat staged setting, respectively. The painting was used by Swedish Viking/Black metal band Bathory for the cover of their 1990 album, Hammerheart.
A book on Frank Dicksee's life and work with a full catalogue of his known paintings and drawings by Simon Toll was published by Antique Collector's Club in January 2017.
He died in 1928.

On November 28 is the birthday of

William Blake, English poet, painter, and printmaker born in Soho, London, in 1757.
Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. What he called his prophetic works were said by 20th-century critic Northrop Frye to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language". His visual artistry led 21st-century critic Jonathan Jones to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced". In 2002, Blake was placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. Although he lived in London his entire life (except for three years spent in Felpham), he produced a diverse and symbolically rich œuvre, which embraced the imagination as "the body of God" or "human existence itself".
Although Blake was considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, he is held in high regard by later critics for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work. His paintings and poetry have been characterised as part of the Romantic movement and as "Pre-Romantic". Reverent of the Bible but hostile to the Church of England (indeed, to almost all forms of organised religion), Blake was influenced by the ideals and ambitions of the French and American Revolutions. Though later he rejected many of these political beliefs, he maintained an amiable relationship with the political activist Thomas Paine; he was also influenced by thinkers such as Emanuel Swedenborg. Despite these known influences, the singularity of Blake's work makes him difficult to classify.
He died in 1827.

On November 29 is the birthday of

Guillaume Coustou the Elder, French sculptor and academician born in 1677 in Lyon.
He was the younger brother of French sculptor Nicolas Coustou and the pupil of his mother's brother, Antoine Coysevox. Like his brother, he was employed by Louis XIV and Louis XV.
He won the Colbert prize (Prix de Rome), as had his brother, which gave him a four-year scholarship at the French Academy in Rome; but refusing to submit to the rules of the academy, he soon left it, and according to legend for some time wandered homeless through the streets of Rome, though he soon found work in the atelier of Pierre Legros.
Returning to Paris, he assisted his uncle in executing the monumental equestrian sculptures of Fame and Mercury for Marly—which were to be replaced by his own Horse Tamers. In 1704 he was admitted into the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture; his piece of reception was Hercule sur le bûcher ("Hercules on the Pyre"), 1704; it displays the dynamic transverse pose and virtuoso carving that academy reception pieces were expected to display. Afterwards(1733) he became the academy's director.
He died in 1746.

Today, November 30, is the birthday of

Wilhelm (Vasily Alexandrovich) Kotarbiński (Ukrainian: Вільгельм Олександрович Котарбінський; Russian: Василий Александрович Котарбинский), Polish symbolist painter of historical and fantastical subjects born in Nieborów in 1848, who spent most of his life in the Russian Empire.
He began his studies with Rafał Hadziewicz at the Warsaw School of Art from 1867 to 1871. Afterward, he enrolled at the University of Warsaw, urged on by his parents who were opposed to an artistic career, but stayed for only a short time before borrowing money from his uncle and moving to Italy. The following year, he was able to arrange a stipend from the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts and enrolled at the Accademia di San Luca, where he studied with Francesco Podesti until 1875, living in poverty and barely surviving a case of typhoid.
After graduating, with more help from the Imperial Society, he was able to set up his own studio in Rome and held his first solo exhibition. His first commission came from the art critic Vladimir Stasov, who engaged him to copy a 14th-century manuscript from the Vatican Museums. He soon acquired many wealthy customers.
In 1888, he left Italy, after being invited by his friend, Pavel Svedomsky, to come to Kiev and work on an upcoming major public project. He married a distant cousin, acquired property in Minsk Governorate, and began painting in the local churches, but visited Kiev frequently. Although he was Catholic, he did decorative work at the Orthodox St Volodymyr's Cathedral from 1889 to 1894, with several other well-known Russian and Ukrainian artists, notably Viktor Vasnetsov. Under the supervision of Adrian Prakhov, an expert on old Russian and Byzantine art, he worked on 84 individual figures and 18 full paintings, including a large painting of the transfiguration of Christ.
He also did murals in private mansions, including those of the philanthropist Nikola Tereshchenko, which is now the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko, and Tereshchenko's son-in-law, Bogdan Khanenko, which now holds an art museum named after him and his wife Varvara.
In 1890, he joined the Union of South Russian Artists and, in 1893, together with Jan Stanisławski and others, founded the Society of Kiev Painters. He was named an Academician of the Imperial Academy in 1905.
He died in 1921.
