Kayan Kwok [Ilustración, Diseño gráfico]

Gracias a mi buena colega en esto de la difusión artística Olga Cabrinety y su blog Totum Revolutum, descubrí a esta interesante artista gráfica china cuyos collages son realmente excelentes. Una gran creatividad en la composición, y la utilización de una amplia gama de recursos, hacen de sus pósters algo siempre novedoso y original. 

Thanks to my good colleague in this artistic dissemination Olga Cabrinety and her blog Totum Revolutum, I discovered this interesting Chinese graphic artist whose collages are really excellent. Great creativity in the composition, and the use of a wide range of resources, make her posters always new and original.

Kayak Kwok es una artista, ilustradora y diseñadora gráfica que trabaja desde Hong Kong. La fundadora de "a k e k e" y co-fundadora de "A.D.1.2 Artist Cooperate Organization".

Desde 2014 ha venido llevando a cabo su proyecto "Un póster al día durante 365 días".

Las palabras clave para su obra son retro, pin up, collage. También está fascinada con la publicidad de los años 1920 a 1960 en Estados Unidos. Por tanto su obra refleja ciertos elementos de antaño, pero luego ella añade algunos elementos de diseño gráfico, lo cual la hace diferente del collage tradicional.

Sus collage presentan un trasfondo surrealista, pero aparte de eso también actúa como una alquimia, porque poniendo juntas cosas de diferentes tiempos y lugares, el resultado es claramente impredecible y esto es lo que hace esos collages tan fascinantes.

Como comenta Olga en su blog:

"Fotografías antiguas, mezcladas con imágenes de obras de arte, con otras que podrían haber salido de la pluma de Norman Rockwell y su forma de ver la vida americana en los años 30' y 40', obviando toda la miseria y crueldad desatada tanto en EEUU con el crack de 1929 como en la Europa de la II Guerra Mundial, o  mapas antiguos y flores, conchas y todo tipo de bichos o ingenios inventados.. ... Esta es su materia prima."

Su colección se agrupa en series, con una estética y punto de vista comunes. 

El proyecto completo puede verse en las múltiples plataformas en las que la artista difunde su obra.

Vintage, retro, pin up, collage are the keywords for her works, she also is fascinated by the advertisment duing the 1920 – 1960 in American. Therefore her work reflected certain element from back then but then she also added some graphic design element, which make it different from traditional collage.

Collage has a surrealism background, but other then that, it also act like Alchemy, because you are putting stuff together from different places and times, the result is clearly unpredictable and this is what makes collage so fascinated.

As Olga wrote in her blog:

"Old photographs, mixed with images of artworks, with others that might have come from the pen of Norman Rockwell and his way of American life in the 30 'and 40', ignoring all the misery and cruelty unleashed in both the US with the crash of 1929 and in Europe during World War II, or old maps and flowers, shells and all kinds of bugs or devices invented .. ... This is her raw material."

Her collection is grouped in series, with a common aesthetic and point of view.

The entire project can be seen on multiple platforms where the artist spreads his work.

Aliza Razell es una jovencísima fotógrafa estadounidense de Massachusetts.

Con tan sólo 19 años, lleva adelante un proyecto 365 (una foto al día durante un año), en un proceso de experimentación en el que juega con la fotografía, la pintura y la fotomanipulación para crear estas bellísimas imágenes, en la mayoría de las cuales es ella misma la modelo.

"Anesidora VI"

«Remitiendo a la mitología griega, la serie de Aliza "Anesidora" explora la historia de la caja de Pandora en seis imágenes inspiradas por la magia de la confrontación, y en última instancia colaboración, con algo extraño y de otro mundo. "Anesidora" es de hecho el segundo nombre dado a Pandora, y está inscrito en su figura en el Museo Británico de Londres.»

Encontré un caballito del diablo muerto en el camino ayer, y supe que tenía que hacer esta foto con él.»

«Hay una palabra en finlandés: Ikävä (nostalgia). Se utiliza para describir el sentimiento de pérdida de un lugar, persona o cosa. Tuve esta idea hace algunos días, inspirada por esta palabra.»

En esta serie de fotografías Razell reune dos medios muy diferentes, la fotografía y la acuarela, utilizando Photoshop.

With only 19 years old Aliza has an ongoing project 365 (a photo a day for a year), in a process of experimentation playing with photography, painting and photomanipulation to create these beautiful images, in most of which she's the model.

«There's a word in Finnish, Ikävä (yearning). It is used to mean the feeling of missing someone/-where/-thing. I had this idea a few days ago, inspired by that word.»

In this series of photographs Razell bring together the two very diverse mediums - photography and watercolor - using Photoshop. 

"Anesidora III"

«Referencing Greek mythology, Aliza's series 'Anesidora' explores the story of Pandora's box in six images inspired by the magic of confronting and ultimately collaborating with something foreign and otherworldly. 'Anesidora' is in fact the second name given to Pandora and is inscribed against her figure at the British Museum in London.»

Diggie Vitt es un fotógrafo estadounidense nacido en Jacksonville, que actualmente reside en Los Ángeles.

Comenzando en 2013, Diggie se embarcó en un "proyecto 365", tomando una fotografía al día durante un año. Para ello recorrió el país visitando amigos antiguos y conociendo nuevos, experimentando con la imagen, la composición, el fotomontaje, aplicando diferentes técnicas y explorando el surrealismo y la fantasía.

En sus fotografías predomina el autorretrato, los tonos oscuros, los entornos naturales, el clima y el paisaje, para crear una colección de imágenes muy bellas y originales, con toda la presión que implica lograr cada día una nueva obra, algo interesante que valga la pena ser visto.

Su trabajo está imbuído de un aire de tristeza y melancolía. Raras veces el modelo mira a la cámara y en casi todas las imágenes se puede sentir una atmósfera de introspectiva meditación.

Tal como escribió Diggie, el fin de su proyecto no es más que el comienzo de algo nuevo.

Presta atención a quién eres. Qué capacidades tienes. El impacto potencial que puedes producir. Algunos de nosotros sabemos exactamente qué queremos hacer con nuestro futuro. Tal vez iremos a por ese doctorado, o tal vez a dedicarnos a los negocios de la familia. Algunos de nosotros estamos atados a múltiples cadenas que, o bien complacen o desalientan. Las cosas no van a ser siempre perfectas, y deberías estar agradecido por ello. Imagina que te rindes ante la primera audición fallida. Imagina que aún estuvieras con tu novia del colegio (a no ser que aún estés con ella) ¿Cuán diferente sería tu vida?. Si, estuvimos a disgusto entonces, pero esos momentos fueron necesarios para llegar a lo que eres hoy. Sé agradecido.

Be aware of who you are. What your capabilities are. The potential impact you can make. Some of us know exactly what we want to do with our future. Maybe we're going to go get that doctorate or maybe we're going to take over the family business. Some of us are being tugged by multiple strings that will either please or discourage the contrasting side. Things won't always be perfect, and you should be thankful for that. Imagine if you gave up after that first unsuccessful audition. Imagine if you were still with your high school sweet heart (unless you still are), how different would your life be? Yeah, we were upset then, but those moments are necessary for who you are today. Be thankful.

Diggie Vitt is an American photographer born in Jacksonville, currently based in Los Angeles. 

Starting in 2013, Diggie embarked on a "365 Project", taking a picture a day for a year. To do this, he travel around the country visiting old friends and meeting new, experimenting with image, composition, photomontage, using different techniques and exploring surrealism and fantasy.

"Hacer creer / Make Believe"

In his photographs predominates self-portrait, dark tones, natural environments, climate and landscape, to create a collection of very beautiful and original images, with all the pressure to achieve every day a new work, something interesting that worth to be seen. 

His work is imbued with an air of sadness and melancholy. Rarely the model looks at the camera and in almost every image you can feel an atmosphere of introspective meditation.

As Diggie wrote, the end of his project is just the beginning of something new.
