Daniel Brici [Pintura]

Daniel Brici

"Bodle", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil and oil on canvas, 40 x 30 cm., 2010

"Daj - Chavorro", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 120 x 100 cm.,  2012

"Say cheese!", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 60 x 50 cm., 2009

"Acarutni", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 100 x 150 cm., 2012

"Amal", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 40 x 30 cm., 2010

"Mesti", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 90 x 55 cm., 2011

"Efta", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 40 x 30 cm., 2011

"Sax", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 100 x 70 cm.

Born in Resita, Romania, nowadays based in Timisoara, Daniel Rici is a young artist that has created an interesting series of works with gipsy children living in the streets of his country.
Daniel's paintings are unfinished portraits of these children, as unfinished as themselves, but with elements enough to clearly define them. The white patches in the portraits give to the viewer the task of complete the rest of the image, in some way the rest of their lives, perhaps with the hope that what is missing could be better than what it is.

"Ander", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 40 x 30 cm., 2012

"Top model", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 150 x 100 cm., 2009

"It all started by chance: During a vacation near Sibiu, Daniel got in contact with some Roma children. He walked with them, they offered him apples and corn, he took pictures.
Only after he returned to Timisoara, it dawned on him that these children were a very interesting subject for his next project. He became aware of his fascination with them: on first sight children like any other children in Romania, but ot closer distance with faces so drawn and serious that one could easily mistake them for adults. Children with skills and capacities like every other child but from the day they were born drilled to become beggars and petty criminals."

"Zorali", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 40 x 30 cm., 2010

"Nangi", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 40 x 30 cm., 2011

"He tried to get in contact with them in the slumps at the outskirts of Timisoara, but there they hided from him. However he soon discovered that they were sent everyday into the centre of town and there making contact was easier. One child told him that he actually went to school, but Daniel soon discovered that there was no school this child went to. Most of the children had never seen a camera or a picture before."

"Historias de las calles / Stories from the Streets"
Lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 160 x 200 cm., 2009

"Bellete", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 50 x 70 cm., 2009

"I stopped and listened to them, taking photos and hearing what they had to say, this way I got close to a world that everyone hides from and avoids it. This subject offers me the possibility to let them tell the story of their lives and the public can imagine what was left untold.
The kids that I have painted are often pulled out of their normal context- the street- the background is often left untouched, white and pure and this lets the imagination to run its course, we can picture them in any possible context and bring them closer to the reality we all want to imagine."

"Phal", lápiz y óleo sobre lienzo / pencil, oil on canvas, 50 x 50 cm., 2011

Toca... mucho. Es triste :(
