En el salvaje norte... / In the Wild North..."
Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 161 x 118 cm., 1891.

It is considered, that the painting was inspired by the lyric The Pine Tree by Mikhail Lermontov:
"In the wild north a pine tree stands alone
On the bare top of a mountain..."

"La madera oscura / The Dark Wood", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 108 × 167,9 cm., 1876

Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin was a Russian landscape painter closely associated with the Peredvizhniki movement.
Shishkin was born in 1832 in Yelabuga of Vyatka Governorate (today Republic of Tatarstan) and graduated from the Kazan gymnasium. Then he studied Sculpture and Architecture at the Moscow School of Painting for four years. After that, he attended the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts from 1856 to 1860 and graduated with the highest honours and a gold medal. He received the imperial scholarship for his further studies in Europe.

Five years later Shishkin became a member of the Imperial Academy in St. Petersburg and was professor of painting from 1873 to 1898. At the same time, Shishkin headed the landscape painting class at the Highest Art School in St. Petersburg.
For some time, Shishkin lived and worked in Switzerland and Germany on scholarship from the St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts. On his return to Saint Petersburg, he became a member of the Circle of the Itinerants and of the Society of Russian Watercolorists. He also took part in exhibitions at the Academy of Arts, the All-Russian Exhibition in Moscow (1882), the Nizhniy Novgorod (1896), and the World Fairs (Paris, 1867 and 1878, and Vienna, 1873).

Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 111,2 x 80 cm., 1869. Gallería Tretyakov (Moscú, Rusia / Moscow, Russia)

In the 1860s he gradually overcame fragmentation in his painting method, striving for the ultimate honesty in the depiction of nature. The most important feature in Shishkin’s art was the attempt to embody the national uniqueness of Russian nature. "My motto? Be Russian. Long live Russia!", the artist wrote. His best works of this period reveal the beauty, splendour and vastness of the Russian plains. ("Noon. Near Moscow", 1869). The method and features he found during this period were later fully developed in the famous painting entitled Rye (1878), which became a symbol for Russian nature.

Shishkin's painting method was based on analytical studies of nature. He became famous for his forest landscapes and was also an outstanding draftsman and a printmaker.
He owned a dacha (seasonal or year-round second home) in Vyra, south from St. Petersburg. There he painted some of his finest landscapes. His works are notable for poetic depiction of seasons in the woods, wild nature, animals and birds. In 1891, he was appointed professor-director of the landscape class in the Academy’s Advanced Art School. In 1898, he completed his painting The Pine Grove and died on 20 March in St. Petersburg, while working on his new painting.
A minor planet 3558 Shishkin, discovered by Soviet astronomer Lyudmila Zhuravlyova in 1978, is named after him.

Lori Pond [Fotografía] + Hieronymus Bosch (El Bosco)

Lori Pond

During a visit years ago to Madrid’s Prado Museum, Pond saw The Garden of Earthly Delights, Hieronymus Bosch’s famous early 16th-century painting, for the first time. Her reaction to seeing it in person was unexpected: she burst into tears.
Last year, Pond’s interest in Bosch was rekindled when she bought Taschen’s massive tome of his complete works. She recreated details from three paintings: The Garden of Earthly Delights, The Temptation of St. Anthony, and The Last Judgement. “I scrutinized the work carefully and found innumerable little tableaus of action,” she says, “so I decided to isolate one or two characters at a time and recreate these very small details as the focus of new photographic works.”

"Bosch redux 3.0" - de "El Jardín de las delicias" / from "The Garden of Earthly Delights" © Lori Pond

To recreate these details from the original paintings, Pond bought props online, in antique stores, and at swap meets, and friends donated old Halloween costumes. She also called upon a circle of creatives for help: “I hired a prosthetics designer to create the iconic ‘Bosch snout’ and legs and tail in one image, and a propmaster to make the life-size boat in Bosch Redux 4.0. My taxidermy teacher gave me some crows’ feet, and I got my friends not only to model for me, but also to help with the prop building, wardrobe, and makeup that went into every image. Most resulting photographs are made in camera, apart from some exceptions when I didn’t want to string up a woman in a harp or couldn’t find ears or birds bigger than a human.”

Lori Pond grew up in Anaheim, California. She shared a love of music and photography with her father who would take her out to Joshua Tree in the springtime to photograph wildflowers.
Since then, Lori got a Bachelor of Science and Spanish from Indiana University, and also received a Master of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism at USC. Her love of photography never abated, though. In fact, she has worked as a graphic designer/live graphics operator for television events and productions in order to pay for her photography habit.
Lori’s award-winning photography has been exhibited in galleries and museums nationally and internationally. Her work resides in the permanent collections of the Center for Fine Art Photography in Ft. Collins, CO, The Center for the Arts in Los Angeles, CA and at Morgan Stanley headquarters in New York. She is also widely interviewed and her “Bosch Redux” series has just been featured in Issue 13 of Musee’ Magazine. She has also published two books, “Lori Pond—Self” and “Arboreal.”

At fifty-two Pond terminated and severed the ties of a twenty-year marriage. Her divorce propels her into an everywoman's odyssey of Self discovery, parsing the passage of humankind's most primal relationship. Her show of Self portraits - some literal, some allegorical - chronicles her sense of loss, mourning and reawakening. Pond seeks to harnmess her unconscious and ride it like a wild horse; sniffing out the unfamiliar; the galloping across a precarious emotional landscape and ultimately hurling herself into some highly original pictorial images along the way.

"As a photographer there's always a challenge of making original work, because like everybody says everyone is a photographer, everybody has a camera in the phone on it, but certainly there's a challenge to make unique work, but inside the whole matter of that, inside the whole idea of photography as an art form, two people can look at the same object, and photograph it, and they will have completely different visions of what that object is. And that's what I love about photography. I actually like the fact that there's so many different viewpoints out there, and while it seems impossible to make unique work the outset it really is possible.
And I think the challenges for fine arts photographers this days are how do you get you work out there for people to see it. That is the biggest challenge. That's the goal in doing this kind of work, is having other people see it, and make their comments, and find their own story about the work, that's what is the richest reward for me."

"My photographs attempt to codify my dreams, to integrate and blur the lines between waking and dreaming, life and death. At times I recreate a specific dream; other times I imagine an entirely new dreamscape based on what I see in the physical world, often combined with ideas I bring forward. I am not concerned with depicting reality as we see it, but instead enjoy altering reality just enough to open a window into the viewer's imagination."

Antonio Fellini [Pintura]

Antonio Fellini

Antonio con su obra "Minotauro" / with his work "Minotaur"

(Carl Sagan)"

"The Cosmos is all that is, ever was, and ever will be. Our contemplations of the Cosmos stir us. Lost somewhere between immensity and eternity is our tiny planetary home, the Earth. The surface of the Earth is the shore of the cosmic ocean. From this shore we have learned most of what we know. Some part of our being knows, this is where we came from, we long to return; and we can. The Cosmos is in us, we're made of starstuff." (Carl Sagan)

Antonio Fellini is a Spanish basically self-taught figurative artist. As he wrote:
"My beginning in art went through the comic world. Although I no longer pay too much attention to this media, I have fond memories of them and still preserve a good part of my collection. Albeit some time ago you could perceive a burden of frustration and pain in my work, as my life is more positive and fun, my work also depicts this new vision."

"... Its almost human face puzzles me ... that look of astonishment and impotence ... is lost? ... These human and vampire teeth clenching containment of rabies ... bare forehead and frown ... seems marked by a scar bathing by a rushing river ... eyelids reflecting the sky of a forest that lead you towards a dense coat and make you pass through the unknown and mysterious ... thru the road, a light continent and perhaps answer, which is curiously in the same plane of pain ... I contemplate it again, I listen and let it free ... quietly answer myself: No, all is not lost ... is doing a great way ... is the way of the "Great Ape".
