El 12 de Octubre es el cumple de
William Claxton, fotógrafo y escritor estadounidense nacido en 1927 en Pasadena, California.
Las obras de Claxton incluyen un libro de fotografías de Steve McQueen, y Jazz Life, que presenta artistas de jazz en la década de 1960. Fue conocido por sus fotografías de músicos de jazz, incluyendo a Chet Baker. Claxton también fotografió celebridades y modelos. Se casó con la modelo Peggy Moffitt en 1960 y tuvo un hijo, Christopher M. Claxton, nacido en 1973. Hugo Erfurth, fotógrafo alemán nacido en 1874, conocido por sus retratos de celebridades y personalidades de la cultura de principios del siglo XX.
Erfurth estudió arte en la Academia de Artes de Dresde, Alemania, desde 1892 hasta 1896. Trabajó como fotógrafo de retratos en Dresde desde 1896 hasta cerca de 1925. Muchos artistas, entre ellos Oskar Kokoschka, Otto Dix y Paul Klee, frecuentaron su estudio. Erfurth desarrolló un estilo muy personal en sus retratos, en los que buscaba representar la psicología y carácter del modelo. Francis Joseph Bruguière, fotógrafo estadounidense nacido en 1879 en San Francisco, California.
Fue el más joven de cuatro hijos nacidos en una familia rica y fue educado en privado. Uno de sus hermanos fue el pintor y médico Peder Sather Bruguière (1874-1967) y era nieto del banquero Peder Sather.
En 1905 conoció al fotógrafo y promotor de arte moderno Alfred Stieglitz. En 1919 se trasladó a la ciudad de Nueva York y estableció un estudio en el que comenzó a fotografiar para las revistas Vanity Fair, Vogue y Harper's Bazaar. También se convirtió en el fotógrafo oficial del Teatro Guild de Nueva York. En 1918 publicó un libro de fotografías titulado "San Francisco". En 1928 se trasladó a Londres, para después regresar a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde se centró principalmente en la pintura y la escultura. Su compañera desde 1920, y para el resto de su vida, fue la actriz británica Rosalinde Fuller.

Jean Agélou, fotógrafo francés nacido en 1878 en Alejandría, Egipto, conocido por sus fotografías eróticas y desnudos realizados a principios del siglo XX.
No se sabe mucho acerca de su vida privada, excepto que después de 1908 Fernande fue su amante y modelo. Era una prostituta cuyo nombre completo se cree que era Fernande Barrey (1893-1960), que también sería modelo para pintores como Amedeo Modigliani y Chaim Soutine, y que también se convirtió en pintora.
El 1900 marcó la época dorada de la fotografía erótica, pero los fotógrafos todavía tenían que trabajar con discreción, y Agélou firmaba sus obras "JA". Pasó mucho tiempo antes de que se conociera su verdadero nombre.

Cuando tenía trece años comenzó a hacer retratos de sus amigos con la vieja Nikon de su padre. Este también le enseñó a reparar y renovar cámaras de época, como una Graflex Speed Graphic que Richard compró al Departamento de Justicia Criminal de Texas.

José María González Álvarez, conocido como Tito Álvarez, fotógrafo cubano nacido en 1916.
En 1940 comenzó estudios de Solfeo en el Consevatorio de la Habana, y hasta 1961 trabajó como cantante en radio y televisión. Sin embargo su interés por la fotografía le llevó a estudiar en el "Club Fotográfico de Cuba" al que se afilió en 1950. Perfeccionó su técnica al realizar un curso de composición fotográfica con Nicolás Haas. A partir de 1962 se dedicó profesionalmente a la fotografía.
Su trabajo fotográfico comenzó relacionado con el mundo de la música, en el que había participado como cantante de boleros, ofreciendo sus servicios en la "Empresa de grabaciones disqueras". Entre 1963 y 1978 trabajó para el Ministerio de Cultura de Cuba, entrando ese año a formar parte de la redacción de la revista Revolución y Cultura, donde permaneció hasta 1997.
Su serie más conocida es "Gente de mi barrio", una clara muestra de una obra centrada en la fotografía humanista, en los modos de vida de la gente. Recibió el el premio Olórum del "Fondo Cubano de la Imagen Fotográfica" por su trabajo de toda una vida.
Su obra ha sido expuesta en numerosos países por todo el mundo.
Murió en 2002.

On October 12 is the birthday of
William Claxton, American photographer and author born in 1927 in Pasadena, California.
Claxton's works included a book of photographs of Steve McQueen, and Jazz Life, a book of photographs depicting jazz artists in the 1960s. He was most noted for his photography of jazz musicians including Chet Baker. Claxton also photographed celebrities and models. He married model Peggy Moffitt in 1960 and had one son, Christopher M. Claxton, born in 1973. Claxton died on October 11, 2008 of complications from congestive heart failure, one day before his 81st birthday.
In 1967, he created the film Basic Black, a work that is credited as the first "fashion video" and is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The music for the film, using a Moog synthesizer, was composed by award-winning artist David Lucas.

Hugo Erfurth, German photographer born in 1874 known for his portraits of celebrities and cultural figures of the early twentieth century.
Erfurth studied art at the Academy of Arts in Dresden, Germany, from 1892 to 1896. He worked as a portrait photographer in Dresden from 1896 until about 1925. Many artists, including Oskar Kokoschka, Otto Dix and Paul Klee frequented his studio. Erfurth developed a very personal style in his portraits, which sought to represent the psychology and character of the model. For this type of work were particularly suitable writers and personalities from the world of visual arts.

Francis Joseph Bruguière, American photographer born in 1879 in San Francisco, California.
He was the youngest of four sons born into a wealthy family and was privately educated. He was a brother of painter and physician Peder Sather Bruguière (1874-1967) and was the grandson of banker Peder Sather.
In 1905, Bruguière became acquainted with photographer and modern art promoter Alfred Stieglitz. In 1919 he moved to New York City and established a studio where he began photographing for Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar. He also became the official photographer of the New York Theatre Guild. In 1918 he published a book of photographs titled San Francisco. In 1928 he moved to London later returning to New York City, where he focused primarily on painting and sculpture. His partner from 1920, and for the rest of his life, was the British stage actress Rosalinde Fuller.
He died in 1945.
On October 16 is the birthday of
Jean Agélou, French photographer born in 1878 in Alexandria, Egypt, best known for his erotic and nude photographs made at the beginning of the 20th century.
Not much is known about Agélou's private life, except that after 1908 Fernande was his lover and model. She was a prostitute whose full name is believed to be Fernande Barrey (1893–1960). She would also model for painters Amedeo Modigliani and Chaim Soutine, and would also become a painter in her own right.
The 1900s marked a golden age of erotic photography, but photographers still had to exercise discretion and he signed his works "JA". It took a long time before the true name of "JA" became known.
He began publishing his work in the magazine L'Étude académique, which was theoretically intended for artists, but that had 20,000 subscribers, and subsequently published his own postcards. The age of his models ranged from 20 to 24 years, and one was only 14 years, which was legal under the law of 16 March 1899.
Nudity in photographs was banned in France on 7 April 1908. Nudity disappeared from all journals and stock images were retouched, a veil or small providential panties were added and pubic hairs were brushed out. Nude images began to circulate clandestinely and producers had to act with discretion. Erotic pictures of Fernande were cherished by soldiers on both sides of the First World War. Erotic postcards and magazines had to be sold or shipped in sealed envelopes. Agélou's original nude prints became available again in the early 1970s, except in Japan where they were still banned. Christian Bourdon and Jean-Pierre Bourgeron, major collectors of postcards, have endeavored to collect as complete a collection of his work as they could.
He died in 1921.

David Black, American photographer and director born in 1980, noted for his work with musicians.
When he was thirteen he started shooting portraits of his friends with his father’s old Nikon. His father also taught him how to repair and refurbish vintage cameras, such as a Graflex Speed Graphic that Richard purchased from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
When Black was eighteen, he took a summer filmmaking course with director Kelly Reichardt at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. While there, he made a series of short 16mm films. He moved to San Francisco in 1999 to study photography at the San Francisco Art Institute. In his final year of college, Black transferred to Cooper Union in New York City.
Black’s work initially came to public attention when in 2005, MTV exhibited forty of his photographs on the façade of their Time Square Building. That same year, he began working at Stop Smiling Magazine for editors J.C. Gabel and James Hughes, photographing cultural icons such as Robert Altman, RZA, Peter Bogdanovich, Oliver Stone, D.A. Pennebaker and Bruce Robinson.
Black has since photographed musicians such as Daft Punk, Giorgio Moroder, John Cale, Bobby Womack, Wes Lang and many more. His work has also appeared in publications such as The New York Times, Interview, and Rolling Stone.
Today, October 18, is the birthday of
José María González Álvarez, known as Tito Alvarez, Cuban photographer born in 1916.
In 1940 he began studying music theory at the Conservatoire of Havana and until 1961 worked as a singer on radio and television. However, his interest in photography led him to study in the "Photo Club of Cuba" to which he joined in 1950. He perfected his technique in a course of photographic composition under Nicolas Haas. From 1962 he took up photography professionally.
He began his photographic work related to the world of music, in which he had participated as a singer of boleros, offering his services in the "Empresa de grabaciones disqueras". Between 1963 and 1978 he worked for the Ministry of Culture of Cuba, coming this year to be part of the staff of the magazine Revolution and Culture, where he remained until 1997.
His best-known series is "People in my neighborhood" is a clear example of a work focused in humanistic photography and people's lifestyles. He received the Cuban Fund of the Photographic Image's award Olorum for his work on a whole life.
His work has been exhibited in many countries worldwide.
He died in 2002.
