Peter Kľúčik es un pintor, ilustrador y grabador eslovaco, nacido en Bratislava en 1953.

Estudió con el litógrafo e ilustrador Albin Brunovsky en el Departamento de Artes Gráficas e Ilustración de Libros de la Academia de Bellas Artes de Bratislava (1974-80).

Hasta los años '90 se dedicó a la ilustración, pero a partir de entonces su obra se expandió hacia el grabado y la pintura. 

Sus trabajos se caracteriza por un horror vacui manifiesto, con composiciones densas y abigarradas.

En 1989, cuando los países del bloque de Varsovia se independizaron y empezaron a penetrar nuevas tendencias de Occidente, Kľúčik recibió el encargo de ilustrar "El Hobbit", de J.R.R. Tolkien. Para este proyecto, creó alrededor de 40 ilustraciones ricas en detalle, y que transmitían muy bien la misteriosa atmósfera del libro. Pero la editorial no fue capaz de ajustarse al mercado, el libro se consideró no rentable, y perdieron los derechos de publicación. Una segunda editorial entró en contacto con el artista, pero interesada tan solo en ilustraciones para la portada. Más tarde una tercera editorial apareció en escena, gracias al tirón provocado por el éxito de la primera parte de la serie de películas "El señor de los anillos", de Peter Parker. Por desgracia los editores, debido a algunas discrepancias, se vieron privados de los derechos para publicar el libro.

Parece ser que esta desafortunada sucesión de acontecimientos propiciaron el alejamiento de Kľúčik de la ilustración, para abrazar el grabado y la pintura. Desde entonces ha venido creando un mundo de fantasía plagado de animales misteriosos, inspirado en animales reales, pero aplicando a las imágenes una imaginación desbordante, retorciendo sus cuerpos y jugando con sus pieles y colores para transformarlos en algo nuevo: criaturas extrañas y desconocidas en entornos fantásticos.

No obstante ello, antes de dejar de lado la ilustración Kľúčik creó imágenes para alrededor de 40 libros, incluidos "Pippi Calzaslargas", de Astrid Lindgren, y "Robinson Crusoe", de Daniel Defoe.

Peter Kľúčik is a Slovak painter, illustrator and printmaker, born in Bratislava in 1953.

He studied with lithographer and illustrator Albin Brunovsky at the Department of Graphic Arts and Book Illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (1974-80).

Until the '90s he devoted himself to illustration, but from then on his work expanded into printmaking and painting. 

His work is characterized by a manifest horror vacui, with dense and variegated compositions.

In 1989, when the Warsaw bloc countries became independent and new trends from the West began to penetrate, Kľúčik was commissioned to illustrate J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit". For this project, he created about 40 illustrations rich in detail, and which conveyed the mysterious atmosphere of the book very well. But the publisher was not able to adjust to the market, the book was considered unprofitable, and they lost the publishing rights. A second publisher contacted the artist, but was only interested in illustrations for the cover. Later a third publisher appeared on the scene, thanks to the pull of the success of the first part of Peter Parker's "Lord of the Rings" film series. Unfortunately the publishers, due to some discrepancies, were deprived of the rights to publish the book.

It seems that this unfortunate sequence of events led Kľúčik to move away from illustration to embrace engraving and painting. Since then he has been creating a fantasy world full of mysterious animals, inspired by real animals, but applying to the images an overflowing imagination, twisting their bodies and playing with their skins and colors to transform them into something new: strange and unknown creatures in fantastic environments.

However, before leaving illustration, Kľúčik created images for some 40 books, including Astrid Lindgren's "Pippi Longstocking" and Daniel Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe".
