Los libros de artista son una forma de expresión artística en la cual los artistas utilizan el formato del libro para crear obras de arte que dentro de este formato pueden tener ciertas variantes ya que estos libros van más allá de ser meramente contenedores de texto e imágenes al incorporar elementos visuales, materiales y conceptuales que los convierten en obras de arte completas.
Los Cuadernos de bocetos pueden ser una de esas variantes. Estos cuadernos contienen bocetos, dibujos, anotaciones y exploraciones visuales realizadas por el artista. A menudo, los artistas utilizan diferentes técnicas y materiales en sus cuadernos de bocetos, como lápices, bolígrafos, acuarelas, collages y collages textiles. Estos cuadernos no solo son una herramienta para el proceso creativo, sino que también pueden considerarse obras de arte por sí mismos.
Los artistas que crean libros de artista a través de cuadernos de bocetos suelen explorar diferentes temas, narrativas o conceptos a lo largo de sus páginas. Pueden utilizar el diseño, la tipografía y la disposición de los elementos en el libro para transmitir una experiencia estética única. Algunos artistas incluso incorporan técnicas de encuadernación especializadas y materiales inusuales para agregar valor estético y conceptual a sus libros de artista.

Artist's books are a form of artistic expression in which artists use the book format to create works of art that within this format can have certain variants since these books go beyond being merely containers of text and images by incorporating visual, material and conceptual elements that turn them into complete works of art.
Sketchbooks can be one of these variants. These sketchbooks contain sketches, drawings, annotations and visual explorations made by the artist. Often, artists use different techniques and materials in their sketchbooks, such as pencils, pens, watercolors, collages and textile collages. These sketchbooks are not only a tool for the creative process, but can also be considered works of art in their own right.
Artists who create artist books through sketchbooks often explore different subjects, narratives or concepts throughout their pages. They may use design, typography, and the arrangement of elements in the book to convey a unique aesthetic experience. Some artists even incorporate specialized binding techniques and unusual materials to add aesthetic and conceptual value to their artist's books.

Linda Harvey
Linda Harvey es una artista textil nacida en Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Reino Unido, en 1973. Linda ha creado obras de arte textil desde los 16 años, lo que la inspiró para completar una licenciatura en estampado de superficie y moda, graduándose en 1994, seguida de un Posgrado en Educación Artística por el Instituto de Educación de Londres. Linda es actualmente directora de Textiles en la escuela Arzobispo Holgate de York y lleva 25 años enseñando textiles y arte, además de producir sus propias creaciones. Es miembro de York Textile Artists (Artistas textiles de York) y de The Society for Embroidered Work (Sociedad del bordado), que promueve y apoya lo mejor del arte de la costura en todo el mundo.
Linda Harvey is a textile artist born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, UK in 1973. Linda has been creating textile artwork since the age of 16, inspiring her to complete a degree in surface print and fashion, graduating in 1994, followed by a PGCE in Art education from the Institute of Education, London. Linda is currently head of Textiles at Archbishop Holgate’s School, York and has been teaching textiles and art for the past 25 years alongside producing her own creations. She is a member of York Textile Artists and The Society for Embroidered Work which promotes and supports the best in stitched art worldwide.

«Mis cuadernos de bocetos se inspiran en mi amor por las marcas viales y las aceras. Creo que esta obsesión empezó durante el confinamiento, cuando sólo podíamos salir una vez al día para hacer ejercicio. Corría la misma ruta todos los días y me familiaricé con las carreteras y aceras de mi barrio. Empecé a llevarme la cámara del móvil cuando corría para capturar los patrones y las texturas que observaba. Cuando terminó el confinamiento seguí explorando este tema: cada vez que salía de excursión o de vacaciones con la familia, capturaba las marcas viales, las tapas de alcantarillas e incluso los baches.»

«Trabajo de forma intuitiva, empiezo con una idea básica, pero las páginas del cuaderno evolucionan con el tiempo. Algunas páginas me llevan unos minutos, otras mucho más, dependiendo de las técnicas que utilice. En mis cuadernos de bocetos utilizo muchos esbozos en miniatura; para completarlos utilizo un visor para seleccionar los patrones que me interesan, luego los desarrollo utilizando otros materiales como rotuladores Posca y otros materiales de dibujo.»

«My sketchbooks are inspired by my love of road and pavement markings. I think this obsession started during lockdown when we were only allowed out once during the day for some daily exercise. I ran the same route everyday and became very familiar with my local roads and pavements. I started to take my phone camera with me on my runs to capture the patterns and textures observed. When lockdown ended, I continued to explore this theme, whenever I went on daytrips or family holidays I would capture the local road markings, drain covers and even potholes.»

«I work intuitively, I will start with a basic idea, but the sketchbook pages will evolve over time. Some pages take minutes to complete others far longer depending on the techniques being used. Within my sketchbooks I use a lot of thumbnail sketches, to complete these I use a viewfinder to pick out the patterns that interest me, I will then develop these using other materials such as Posca pens and other drawing materials.»

José María Pelayo
José María Pelayo es un escultor y pintor uruguayo nacido el 17 de octubre de 1956 en Montevideo. Trabaja la madera y otros materiales en un estilo conceptual, con un marcado lenguaje latinoamericano. El ambiente y la magia típicos del espíritu ancestral son fundamentales en su obra.

José María Pelayo is a Uruguayan sculptor and painter born on October 17, 1956 in Montevideo. He works with wood and other materials in a conceptual style with a marked Latin American language. The atmosphere and magic typical of the ancestral spirit are fundamental in his work.

EliminarMe encantaron las exposiciones de estos dos libros, encuentro en común el camino y paso del tiempo registrado de manera distinta. Uno a través de las huellas de la calle, registro viviente de los transeúntes y demás formas de andar que dejan marcas, profundidades, algunas recientes y otras distantes en el tiempo.Por otro lado , el segundo libro, da cuenta de huellas con profundidades emocionales, sentidas, perdidas que calan hondo y se rescatan con el recuerdo. Huellas en el tiempo compagina ambas miradas de dos artistas. Gracias por compartir su arte. Lilián Rodríguez
