"My country has a long history of hardships and challenges. Our past is riddled with occupation and war. The present isn't any better. We are a country dealing with a reputation for corruption and lack of good governance. In spite of all the challenges the Filipino people encounter, I still believe in their resilience and fighting spirit. Even though the country is plagued with political quarreling and calamities, the people still manage to rise together from the grime and seek for the good. Hope still prevails in the very heart of the Filipino spirit. Mi people's bottomless ability to stay positive even in the eye of the storm inspired me to come up with this piece. The models used for the painting belong to the demographic that is usually victimized by de country's corruption, making the piece even more significant."
