Kyle Fisher

Kyle Fisher es un joven pintor estadounidense nacido en Trenton, New Jersey. 

Estudió en el Colegio de Arte y Diseño de Savannah, Georgia (SCAD), y también a tiempo parcial en la galería / taller que junto con otros 7 muchachos graduados en el SCAD iniciaron en la Frankford Avenue of the Arts, en Philadelphia.

En los últimos años, el trabajo de Kyle se ha centrado en la madera como superficie para sus pinturas. Según escribe:

"Comenzó como una apreciación de la superficie en sí misma; la forma como asimilaba tanto el acrílico como el óleo. Sin embargo gradualmente me descubrí utilizando las imágenes existentes: el dinamismo y belleza de la veta de la madera, como parte del producto terminado. Desde entonces he estado explorando las ideas de belleza natural, belleza creada por el hombre y la interconectividad."

"Las teorías presentes en los trabajos de Piet Mondrian siguen siendo una fuente de inspiración para mí. Utilizando sólo colores primarios y líneas verticales y horizontales, ha creado algunos de los trabajos más visualmente balanceados que se conocen. Cuando paso un tiempo frente a un panel intacto, me fascinan las muchas formas en que el color, la forma y las puras líneas pueden cargar y balancear de manera análoga el movimiento y composición de la madera"

"Selecciono cada panel en función de la inmediata conexión que siento. Cada uno es increíblemente único, y puede haber movimiento, peso visual o una composición que me fascina. Abordo cada pieza con lápiz. Instintivamente, formas gestuales se van garabateando a medida que comienzo a centrarme en la pieza. Es en éste momento que ocurre mi parte favorita del proceso."

Le he preguntado a Kyle acerca de la relación entre su referencia a Mondrian y sus últimos trabajos figurativos, concretamente pensando en "Bloom" y "Pride". Me escribe que "en lo que respecta a la ideología de Mondrian, la relación estriba en el papel que juegan esas formas gestuales y cómo se balancean con la veta natural de la madera en mis trabajos abstractos." En cuanto a ésta nueva serie "que busca influir en las connotaciones que aplicamos a lo reconocible", pendiente una declaración artística más inclusiva, Kyle me ofrece algunas claves:

"La iconografía que recopilamos a partir de la vida salvaje, de lo mundano y de las señales presentes en el espacio físico, así como nuestra experiencia del mundo visual, es procesada de innumerables e inimaginables maneras y de forma diferente por cada uno de nosotros. Una aguada de color puede resultar estridente. Por otra parte, una línea que imita un jirón de tela evoca familiaridad.

Formamos nuestra comprensión de la física de las cosas solos y de forma unívoca. Creo que reinterpretando lo representable utilizando la propia y única comprensión de cómo las cosas sienten, se pliegan, se mueven, se rasgan, florecen y caducan, estamos en condiciones de presentar las imágenes de una forma que desafía las tendencias naturales. Somos entonces capaces de comunicar mejor los matices de percepción que nos conectan."

Kyle Fisher is a young American painter born in Trenton, New Jersey.

He Went to school in Savannah, Georgia at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Part time studios was a gallery / workspace that he and 7 other kids who graduated from SCAD started on Frankford Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Over the past couple years, Kyle's work had focused on wood as the surface for his paintings. As he wrote:

"It started as an appreciation for the surface itself; the way it held both acrylic and oils. I gradually, however, found myself using the existing imagery; the dynamism and beauty within the wood’s grain as part of the finished product. Since then, I’ve been exploring the concepts of natural beauty, man-made beauty, and inter-connectivity."

"The theories found in the works of Piet Mondrian remain an inspiration in my own. Using just primary colors and vertical/horizontal lines, he created some of the most visually balanced works known. When I spend time in front of an untouched panel, I’m amazed at the many ways color, form, and clean line, can similarly charge and balance the wood’s movement and composition.

I select each panel because of an immediate connection I’m able to feel. Each is incredibly unique, and it may be movement, visual weight, or a composition that fascinates me. Each piece is approached with a pencil. Instinctive, gestural shapes are scrawled as I begin to focus the piece. It is at this moment that my favorite part of the process happens."

I asked Kyle about the relationship with Mondrian concerning his latest figurative works, specifically thinking of "Bloom" and "Pride". He wrote me that "As far as Mondrian's ideology is concerned - that mostly relates to my abstract works where the gestural shapes simply play into / balance out the existing composition of the woodgrain.". About this series "interested in influencing the connotations we apply to the recognizable", pending a more inclusive artistic statement, Kyle gives me some clues:

"The iconography we gather - of wildlife, the mundane, markings of physical space - and our experience of the visual world is processed differently by all - in countless and unimaginable ways.  A spattered wash of color may resonate.  For another, a line mimicking brittle, tattered fabric conjures familiarity.   

We form our grasp of the physicality of things uniquely and alone. I believe through reinterpreting the representational using one's unique understanding of how things feel, fold, move, tear, bloom and decay, we're able to introduce imagery in a way that challenges predispositions.  We're then able to better communicate the nuances of perception that connect us."
