Natalia Evelyn Benčičová es una joven artista visual nacida en 1992 en Bratislava, Eslovaquia.
Estudió fotografía y bellas artes en la Universidad de Artes Aplicadas de Viena, Austria. Desde 2014 vive y trabaja en Alemania.
En su obra intenta llegar a un punto en el que confluyan lo artístico y lo comercial, centrándose en lo conceptual, así como en los aspectos visuales de la fotografía.
Para ella es importante combinar el conocimiento académico, una estética interesante, un mensaje potente y una comunicación activa con la audiencia.
Trabaja en fotografía desde 2012, utilizando una Canon 5D Mark II.

«Tengo que admitir que la mayoría de los jovenes creativos están dejando el país por alguna razón. No hay suficiente apoyo para el arte y los proyectos culturales, pero también falta una actitud de mentalidad abierta en el común de la sociedad. La gente de las nuevas generaciones sabe que son los únicos capaces de cambiar esta situación, pero puede ser una lucha muy larga. En mi opinión, Eslovaquia tiene problemas para aceptar su identidad cultural. En lugar de apreciar y desarrollar lo que ya tenemos, hay un esfuerzo infructuoso por parecernos a algo que nunca seremos. Mi obra y visión están fuertemente influenciadas por mis orígenes, y creo que incluso quienes viajan y abandonan el país a menudo buscando mejores condiciones o inspiración, siempre regresan con nuevas ideas y energía. Como cualquier relación, esta es de ida y vuelta. Si destruimos nuestras raíces, no podemos crecer.»
«Para mí Berlín es la más hermosa e inspiradora de las ciudades del mundo. Tal vez cambie de opinión más adelante, pero para una persona joven que está buscando inspiración e intensidad, este es el lugar indicado. Está lleno de oportunidades para vivir y crear, pero siempre es necesario encontrar un saludable equilibrio en todo, lo cual a veces es muy difícil.»

«La mayoría de mis imágenes las realicé en Bratislava. Me inspira mucho la arquitectura y estética socialista, y en Bratislava tengo muchas oportunidades de encontrar esa clase de edificios y localizaciones. Creo que es natural sentirte influenciada por tu propia cultura también en tu obra, y utilizar cosas de tu entorno, especialmente cuando no puedes permitirte otra cosa.»

«Yo tomo fotografías de gente, pero no son reales. Generalmente tan sólo representan algo, a alguien más. Pero aún así mis fotos no van sobre ellos. No tienen que ver con quién está en la imagen, sino con lo que hay allí, lo que ocurre.»

«Prefiero que los modelos quieran ser realmente parte de la fotografía y de todo el proceso creativo. La persona que cree en mi obra y mi visión, es el rostro y el cuerpo adecuado, y sólo con este tipo de modelos puedo darle a la imagen toda su concentración y energía, que es lo que normalmente espero. Por supuesto a veces hay cierto criterio visual, pero la habilidad de interpretar un papel y estar realmente presente en la sesión fotográfica es lo más importante.»

«Tomar la fotografía es para mí el último paso, el más fácil. Mi obra pretende crear una ilusión completa, que eventualmente se vuelve real por un momento. La inspiración es algo que me impulsa hacia delante tan intensamente que se convierte en la más importante de mis necesidades básicas. Mientras tengo una idea y creo en ella, no puedo dormir bien ni hacer ninguna otra cosa hasta el momento en que la traigo a la vida. Es un sentimiento de gran fascinación e importancia, que casi me supera y me impulsa a través de todo el proceso, casi sin darme cuenta.»

«Utilizo la desnudez en su contexto natural, no sexual. En mis series represento a la humanidad. La utilizo como una forma de unificar a la gente borrando las clasificaciones creadas por la vestimenta. La ropas nos ayudan a distinguir dónde y cuándo vivimos, cuales son nuestros gustos y status social. Creamos un cierto personaje, visible para el resto del mundo, pero sin todo eso somos tan sólo humanos. Creo que la mayoría de nosotros tenemos miedo de nosotros mismos, miedo de nuestra fragilidad y vulnerabilidad de nuestro verdadero yo.»

Natalia Evelyn Bencicova is a young visual artist born in 1992 in Bratislava, Slovakia.
She studied photography and fine art in the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, Austria. Since 2014 she lives and works in Germany.
In her work she's trying to pursue a point in which commercial and artistic meet, focusing on conceptual as well as visual aspect of photography.
It is important for her to combine academic knowledge, interesting aesthetics, strong message and active communication with the audience.
She works with photography since 2012 using Canon 5D Mark II.

«I have to admit that most of the young creative people are leaving the country for a reason. There is not enough support for art and cultural projects but also lack of open-minded attitude in regular society. People from young generations know that they are the ones able to change this situation but that might be a long struggle. In my opinion, Slovakia has a problem with accepting its real cultural identity. Instead of appreciating and developing what we already have, there is an unsuccessful effort to look like something what we will never be. My work and vision is strongly influenced by my origin and I believe that even the people who travel and leave the country often for better conditions or inspiration always come back with new energy and ideas. Like every relationship, this one is also about taking and giving. If we destroy our roots, we cannot grow.»
«For me is Berlin the most beautiful and inspiring city in the world. Maybe I will change my mind later but for a young person, who is searching for an inspiration and intensity this is the place to be. It is full of opportunities to live and to create but it is always necessary to find the healthy balance in everything, what can be sometimes quite difficult.»

«Most of my pictures are realized in Bratislava. I’m really inspired by socialistic architecture and esthetic and in Bratislava I have a lot of opportunity to find this kind of buildings and locations. I think that it is natural to be influenced by your own culture also in your work and to use things which are around, especially when you cannot afford anything else.»

«I prefer when the models really want to be the part of the photography and the whole creative process. The person, who believes in my work and vision is the right face and the right body and only this kind of model can give his or her whole energy and concentration to the picture- what is usually the thing I want and expect. Of course sometimes there are certain visual criteria, but an ability to play the role and to be truly present in the photo shoot is the most important.»

«To take the picture is for me only the last step, the easiest one. My work is to create the whole illusion, which eventually becomes real for a moment. The inspiration is something that drags me forward so intensely that it becomes the most important of my basic needs. While having an idea I believe in, I cannot really sleep or do anything else until the moment I bring it to life. It is the feeling of the great fascination and importance, which is almost outreaching me and it is pulling me through the whole process almost without my notice.»

«I’m using nudity in its natural, not sexual context. In my series it represents humanity. I use it as the way to unify the people by erasing any classification created by clothing. Clothes help us to distinguish where and when we live, what our taste and social status is. We create a certain character, visible to the outer world, but without all this we are just human. I believe that most of us are scared of ourselves, we are scared of this fragility and vulnerability of our truth self.»
