"El Rinoceronte Clara en París / Clara, the Rhino in Paris" en 1749
El rinoceronte Clara (1738-14 de abril de 1758) fue un rinoceronte indio hembra de mediados del siglo XVIII. Llegó a Europa por Róterdam en 1741, pasando a ser el quinto rinoceronte vivo visto en Europa desde la llegada del Rinoceronte de Durero en 1515. Tras exhibiciones en pueblos de los Países Bajos, Alemania, Suiza, Polonia, Francia, Italia, Bohemia y Dinamarca, murió finalmente en Londres. Hay toda una serie de pinturas, dibujos y grabados de la época, como éste que comparto aquí.

Según dice "creado con photoshop, es un concepto de pintura digital conceptual pensada para una futura obra al óleo", y probablemente para una serie de pinturas con humanos y rinocerontes.

"Rinoceronte", Plaza el Humilladero, Villaviciosa de Odon (Madrid, España / Spain)
Francisco Otero Besteiro, escultor y pintor, nace el 3 de marzo de 1933 en la localidad de Corgo, en la provincia de Lugo (España) y fallece el 24 de mayo de 1994. Personaje peculiar apasionado de la filosofía y gran admirador de las personas dedicadas a la investigación científica y en especial a la medicina. Hombre de gran sensibilidad artística, buscando siempre nuevas formas de expresion, consiguió reunir una obra personal, diversa y sorprendente e incluso realizando inventos para soluciones cotidianas. Una curiosidad; en una encuesta a los vecinos para escoger la más bonita estatua de Villaviciosa, en la opción que da para votar por ésta de Besteiro dice: "Rinoceronte/ardilla/lo que sea" :)

Otro de un escultor australiano, ésta vez Gerry McMahon del sur, Adelaida. La obra tiene 300 x 150 x 90 cm., en acero y acero inoxidable. La compró el Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woodville South SA. En su sitio web hay unas cuantas obras más por el estilo muy interesantes. Su afición le viene de haber trabajado como vendedor de planchas de metal. Pero, como dice: "Siempre he apreciado las características del metal, particularmente su versatilidad y durabilidad, pero como artista tengo la capacidad de experimentar, explorar los límites y manipular el metal de una manera más creativa que nunca antes."

But, as he says, "I've always appreciated the characteristics of metal, particularly its versatility and durability, but as an artist I have the ability to experiment, explore boundaries, and manipulate metal in a more creative way than ever before.

"Escritorio rinoceronte / Rhino desk"
Y... de todo para el hogar: éste "Rhino desk", curioso rinoceronte escritorio diseñado por François-Xavier y Claude Lalanne (Les Lalane). Expuesto en el Museo de Artes Decorativas de París. Parece ser que Yves Saint Laurent era uno de los compradores más fieles del trabajo de ésta pareja de escultores. Aquí hay un artículo muy interesante y una serie de fotografías del archivo de la revista LIFE en el que se los ve en acción juntos en su estudio en 1967, así como unos cuantos de sus trabajos surrealistas inspirados en animales.

Kazuhiko Nakamura nació en Hyogo, Japón en 1961. Tuvo una gran influencia del surrealismo y el cyberpunk cuando era jóven. Se ganó la vida en Tokyo como diseñador durante muchos años. Fue autodidacta en el arte digital 3D desde 1996. Su arte es un híbrido surreal de hombres y máquinas, un maridaje entre la carne y el metal.
