In this first post dedicated to the works of the great Tenerife artist Jorge Perez, I will focus on the paintings and drawings of the latest ongoing exhibition in "Los Lavaderos" (Santa Cruz). All photographs - except the first one and the sketch of Sagittarius - are mine. Later I'll post images of his previous work.

Jorge Pérez Rodriguez is an artist born in La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands), where he currently lives and works.
He studied four years of Graphic Design at the School of Art Fernando Estévez and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Fine Arts in La Laguna. Although, he says, "the more training I have acquired in my desk investigating and trying new things."
As for his style: ".. I'm going to define me as I've been defined by others... Hyperrealist ... Is a work, let's say fantastic, that tends to realism".

"The first is to have a good idea that could come from the most unexpected ways, watching a movie, walking on the beach, talking to someone, etc.., Once I have the idea must be put on paper and see if it works -this part is the trickiest because if you don't do it right, what seemed to be a good idea may end in a disastrous abortion so I go very carefully trying the first experiment to be my best and I receive a positive feeling, and so be able to continue exploiting the idea. If the result is positive, I get fully into the concept and I get the best possible performance producing many works as possible with the same speech until it loses charm, trying much detail and making it borderless, always trying to add something new to continue growing in my own imagery and thereby increase my pictorial vocabulary. ... the first influences came from the world of comics, BrecciaEleuteri SerpieriAzpiriMilo Manara, etc.., Then I felt attracted by Dali's work, until I almost hate it, it influenced me so much that everything I painted reeked Dali, now I try to follow my own path, trying not to have too much influences of artists I see surfing the Net from time to time, but something always sticks of the other artist's style, which is not bad. If it is just a little bit it can help you grow. If it is too much and what you do begins to resemble that artist's work, I personally recommend to forget it ...

"The color is almost the most important in my work. The type of work I do is quite colorful, and is often difficult to combine different colors with different shades in the same format. I usually give much importance though, I have to say that my strength is drawing, the line. Maybe that's why the work goes as it goes, is a work in great detail, very definite, because the basis of drawing is very strong. "

"I was about to start in drawing by computer, but not catch me. I'm from another era. There are actual artists such as Joel Rea, who is Australian, or Jeremy Geddes, who are breaking new ground in the world of traditional painting. At the same while there are people doing great things with computers, amazing things, there are others who are still traditional and are doing real magic, innovating in this field. Are two very large worlds. Oil painting and traditional painting, still have much ground to discover (...) The subject of computing is more productive because it is faster (...) Anyway both complement each other. I sometimes help myself with the computer to make pictures, to see the composition, also to find images that would be more difficult to move me to a site or another to get them. Maybe if I want to draw a rhinoceros, I got it right there. But especially when composing. "
