Tom Middleton es un artista autodidacta de Lancaster, actualmente con sede en Londres. El padre de Tom es un ilustrador técnico jubilado, que trabajó en temas que van desde cajas de cambios a submarinos nucleares y aviones militares. Tom aborda su trabajo con la misma atención precisa a los detalles y el ojo crítico que se requería de la obra de su padre.
Todas las piezas originales están dibujadas a mano, en lápiz de grafito. No se utilizan técnicas de referencia de rejilla, lo que significa que cada pieza se dibuja puramente "a ojo" e insume del orden de 200 horas de trabajo.

Tom Middleton is a self taught artist from Lancaster, now based in London. Tom's father is a retired Technical Illustrator, who worked on subjects ranging from gearboxes to nuclear submarines and military aircraft. Tom approaches his work with the same precise attention to detail and critical eye that was required of his father's work.
All Original pieces are hand drawn, in graphite pencil. No grid reference techniques are used, meaning every piece is drawn purely 'by eye' and comprises in the region of 200 hours of work.

Esta pieza fue una colaboración con el fotógrafo Tom Cunningham. Él tomó la foto de este rinoceronte atacando, y estuvo de acuerdo en permitirme hacer mi propia interpretación para capturarlo en papel. Fue la segunda pieza incorporada a la colección, y desde entonces se ha convertido en mi logo/icono. «En el Long Leat Safari Park tuve el privilegio de pasar algún tiempo con este muchacho. Estaba dando vueltas alrededor del padock, y tengo que decir que fue la primera vez que vi un rinoceronte corriendo. Demonios son rápidos, y yo también tuve ese momento de T-Rex en el parque jurásico donde podía sentir mis huesos sacudidos por el impacto en el suelo. Sin duda puedo decir que sentado en el coche no me sentí ni un poquito seguro. Era majestuoso e íntimo, todo en uno. Qué magníficos animales. Esperemos que estén con nosotros por muchos años. «At Long Leat Safari park I was privileged to spend some time with this fella. He was bullocking around the padock, and I have to say it was the first time I had seen a rhino run. Damn they are quick, and I also had that jurassic park T-Rex moment where I could feel my bones shaking from the impact to the ground. I can certainly say sitting in the car I did not feel one tiny bit safe. He was majestic and intimating all rolled into one. What magnificent animals lets hope they are with us for many years. I was also fortunate enough to be with my father as well when we saw him, the man who gave me all my creative instincts. Thanks Dad.» 500px

«Mi principal interés por la vida silvestre tuvo su origen en la contemplación de la naturaleza. Sin embargo, mi trabajo se ha movido ahora hacia una observación emocional más subjetiva de los terribles escollos en los que la fauna del mundo se ha hundido sin remordimientos. A través de mi cuestionamiento de este tema está mi intención redirigir la mirada del espectador desde el concepto romántico del paisaje africano a una cosmovisión actual donde el peligro inminente de una especie que desaparece se convierta en el foco.»

Fue una experiencia muy especial, ya que fuimos a darle de comer y jugar con él. Si bien pinta y dibuja animales ocasionalmente, su obra habitual son pinturas hiperrealistas de objetos, generalmente alimentos.
«La obra que creo está inspirada en la belleza de lo corriente. La luz que brilla en una lámina de hojalata arrugada, los patrones en un pastel de crema, los colores en las burbujas, una col. Encuentro alegría en el diario, lo mundano. En un mundo en el que todos tenemos prisa por llegar a algún lugar, a menudo pasamos ante tantas cosas interesantes sin siquiera notarlas y espero que mi trabajo haga que la gente se detenga y mire algunas cosas comunes a través de una nueva mirada.
Como es el detalle que ofrece la vida real lo que impulsa mi trabajo, es el estilo realista que adoptom, y me esfuerzo por hacer que mi tema elegido sea lo más realista posible. At the same time, she has built on her skills as a freelance artist, creating phenomenal images like this one.
While occasionally she paints and draws animals, his usual work is hyperrealistic paintings of objects, very often food.
«The work I create is inspired by the beautiful ordinary. The light shining on crinkled tin foil, the patterns in a custard cream, colours in washing up bubbles, a cabbage - I find joy in the every day, the mundane, the often overlooked. In a world where we all seem in a rush to get to somewhere, we often whizz past so many interesting things without even noticing them and I hope my work makes people stop and look at some ordinary things through fresh eyes.
