To be honest, officer, I'm excited about the robbery. No one had ever shown such interest in my work.

Play your part you too!

«Siempre fui dibujante.

- Art is not for understanding it. You must feel it.
- I can't feel anything in front of this.
- You don't understand anything.

Nunca más / Never more

Tute with Quino in the day of 80th birthday of the Master

Oscar Grillo

... now you tell me something sweet, please.

What time do you leave?

- The sculptor is a creator, a little God.
- How does the public react to your work?
- With a fierce atheism.
- May I look?
- Don't touch.

- Here I painted the void.
- It came out exactly the same.
______________________________________________________________

- What do your parents do?
- My mother is an interior decorator.
- And my dad is a painter.
- You see?, That picture was painted by him.
- Aha.
- And what about work, does neither of them work?
- So that picture was painted by your dad?
- Yes. Its name is "Seated Woman".
- Excuse me, but I don't see the woman or the chair.

The father of one of Tute's best-known characters, Batu, is an abstract painter.
 - I don't understand.
- You don't have to understand it. It's abstract painting.
- My dad says that you must look at and feel it freely.
- And that each will see different things.
- I don't understand your dad.
- Very interesting your dad's paintings, Batu... but now I need to see my mom's waxed floors for a while.

«I was always a draftsman. We all started to draw before we spoke. It is one of the first tools of expression that we have. I never stopped using it. I was born in a house very linked to art, with a cartoonist dad and a plastic artist mom. And, yes, I always thought that I would devote myself to drawing professionally. As a kid, I used to complain that, unlike my dad, I would draw pictures but nobody would pay for them.»

- She has the face full of small dots, you see?
- Yes, she has a disgusting skin.

«My references are very many. To make a synthesis, my three great teachers are: my dad (Caloi), Quino and Fontanarrosa. They are the guys I know the most and the ones I have learned the most. From Fontanarrosa I took and learned a lot from the synthesis, how important it was, and I started to apply it, because when I started to make pictures, my reference was Fontanarrosa. (...) Quino told me that I had to put more the finger on the sore. I understood over time that putting my finger on the sore, for me, was to deal with things that are valuable for me, which for me are important, and that while I did a work from that place, more visceral, was going to be putting my finger on my own sore. From my dad I learned everything ... from how to start a work, how to work without fixed characters, with fixed characters, without a return of the public, because it did not exist initially, with a return of the public, because my dad was well known, and had lots of feedback, how it was an exhibit, that is, everything, really everything.»

He walked ... walked ... walked ... walked... he stopped ... and looked.
(Is a pun. "Looked" in Spanish is "Miró", same as the surname of the famous painter Joan Miró)

«Everything that is part of my interests sooner or later appears in my drawings. And psychoanalysis is an issue that has always interested me. In addition, it is ideal for producing humor. From the beginning, by the visual picture of a psychoanalytic therapy: a little guy sitting and another lying on a talking bed. And then, because in a therapy we analyze everything important: love, ties, fears, and our relationship with the unconscious.»
- To think that of this painting, the only thing that I'll remember will be your perfume.

Left: - I find it hard to get rid of my work.
You become attached to it?
- I can't sell it.
Right: - I still do not control well the creative impulse.

«I always liked timeless and universal humor. I do not like the idea of making a humorous picture today and that within a week does not make sense or is not understood. Humor can be made on all subjects without tying it to the present. Even on the present.»

- This can be done by my 5 years old child!
- Is your intention to discredit the author or speak well of your child?

«Our Tute is a fine-eared catoonist. His drawn lines evoke men and women of his city and his time, who with words written on their heads try to communicate without understand each other. Although his characters do not understand each other, Tute communicates these incommunication eloquently and clearly through a game that takes place in a universe of great harmony and plastic dexterity. 'I wonder how far it will be true that what I dreamed last night did not happen' they question a group of lines that suggests a naked man. The depth of this dilemma would require a philosopher to write a volume that very few would read. For Tute was enough a vignette that, published in a newspaper, would be read by hundreds of thousands of people.» Oscar Grillo

- What can you tell me about ephemeral art?
- You have to sell it fast.

«It probably was necessary the participation of my father, Quino and many more so that this humor that we are doing today is not too violent for the general taste.
Anyway, what I do I learned from them. The first guy I saw crossing poetry with graphic humor was my father. He has pages from the decade of the seventies in which he illustrated songs by Serrat and poems by Macedonio Fernández, Machado and Miguel Hernández. I would not like to take on the novelty of making a poetic humour. There would be so many other artists.»

- I don't feel panic for the blank canvas, but for the price of acrylics.

- Is incredible what other sculptors find stinging the stone. I only find more stone.
