According to his biography by Karel van Mander, he began his artistic training with the painter Cornelius Willemsz in Haarlem, but was recalled to Heemskerk by his father to work on the family farm. However, having contrived an argument with his father he left again, this time for Delft, where he studied under Jan Lucasz, before moving on to Haarlem, where he became a pupil of Jan van Scorel, learning to paint in his teacher's innovative Italian-influenced style.

On his return to the Netherlands in 1536, he settled back at Haarlem, where he became president of the Haarlem Guild of Saint Luke (in 1540), married twice (his first wife and child died during childbirth), and secured a large and lucrative practice. He was one of the first Netherlandish artists to make drawings specifically for reproduction by commercial printmakers. He employed a technique incorporating cross-hatching and stippling, intended to aid the engraver.
He died in 1574.

El 4 de Junio es el cumple de

Chatchawan Rodklongtan (ชัชวาล รอดคลองตัน), artista tailandés nacido en Bangkok en 1974.

No debemos intentar poseerlos. No debemos molestarlos.

On June 4 is the birthday of

Chatchawan Rodklongtan (ชัชวาล รอดคลองตัน), Thai artist born in Bangkok in 1974.
He studied painting at the Technological Institute of Rajamangala, Poh Charng Campus (1992), and at the Rajamangala Institute of Technology, Master of Arts (1994)
He is one of the most recognized young artists in the country, and has exhibited regularly since 1992.
As a devout Buddhist, time honoured temple murals that he often explores in his youth, influenced Chatchawan’s works. As he approached adulthood, he began to explore the dichotomy of ‘Happiness’ and ‘Suffering’. Despite its philosophical concept and the painting’s detail intricacy, his works evoke a sense of tranquility that is almost like the inner sanctum of a monastery. The sense of peace and steadiness that are articulated with each brushstroke, come together to produce an exquisite mastery of classical art with modern sensibilities. His works convey an acute awareness of the truth that comes forth from an individual who is illuminated about with the demands of modern life but also the ways of the Dharma.

“There are many paths to happiness, just as there are to suffering. It all depends on the individual, and what he or she chooses to use to resolve the suffering. However, true happiness is continuous. The principles of Buddhism and Dharma have led to my discovery of a state of happiness that is not seeking. In other words, the gravitation towards suffering does not exist because the desire for happiness is suffering. Therefore, true happiness is simple. It can be felt through one’s spirit. There is no need to own that happiness.
Happiness and suffering have always been paired together, since the creation of life. These two opposing aspects will never fail to meet. When we are born, they enter our lives. Thus our only duty is to observe them and acknowledge them. We are not to try to own them. If we own one, we must own the other as well. Therefore, all we have to do is to live simply, and at the same time, must live harmoniously with the two. We are not to disturb them. We can live peacefully in this world, with happiness and suffering.”
