"'Chica con una Mandolina (Fanny Tellier)' no sólo es una de las más bellas, líricas y accesibles de todas las pinturas cubistas, sino que también es un valioso documento de la época. El hecho de que Picasso viera la obra como inacabada, nos permite comprender sus intenciones estéticas y su procedimiento técnico. En primer lugar, la legibilidad de este lienzo demuestra de manera concluyente que, aunque las pinturas cubistas se estaban volviendo más abstractas en apariencia, los artistas estaban todavía profundamente condicionados, al menos en las primeras etapas de sus obras, por la existencia material y la apariencia física de sus sujetos. Por otra parte, el cuadro ilustra de manera muy concreta la tensión que sentía Picasso entre el deseo de dar a las formas un tratamiento volumétrico explícito y la necesidad de aplanarlas sobre el plano del cuadro (compárese, por ejemplo, el tratamiento casi escultórico de los senos y los brazos con el de la cabeza, que se representa en términos de dos planos, sin volumen). "'Girl with a Mandolin (Fanny Tellier)' is not only one of the most beautiful, lyrical and accessible of all Cubist paintings, but is also a valuable document of the period. For the fact that at the time Picasso saw the work as unfinished, allows us an insight into his aesthetic intentions and his technical procedure. In the first place, the legibility of this canvas demonstrates conclusively that although Cubist paintings were becoming more abstract in appearance, the artists were still deeply conditioned, at least in the early stages of their works, by the material existence and the physical appearance of their subjects. Then again the painting illustrates in a very concrete fashion the pull Picasso felt between the desire to give forms an explicit, volumetrical treatment, and the need to flatten them up onto the picture plane (compare, for example, the almost sculptural treatment of the breasts and the arms with that of the head, which is rendered in terms of two flat planes). 15. "Nature Morte Verre / Naturaleza muerta vaso / Still Life Glass"
Esta obra es una de las 271 que se salieron a la luz en 2010. La noticia fue publicada por el rotativo francés Libération. El electricista francés jubilado Pierre Le Guennec intentó obtener los certificados de autenticidad de los herederos del artista.
"Entre las obras descubiertas figuran algunas poco comunes, como nueve 'collages cubistas' pintados a principios de la segunda década del siglo, un periodo del que muchas de las obras del artista se perdieron, y valoradas en unos 40 millones de euros. Pero también una acuarela de su periodo azul o pinturas aguadas en papel, estudios pintados sobre tela, además de dos centenares de dibujos."
Según el diario, Le Guennec afirmó ante la policía haber trabajado como electricista de Picasso en las diferentes residencias que el pintor tuvo en la Costa Azul, al tiempo que añadió que fueron el artista o su esposa Jacqueline quienes le regalaron las obras. Los herederos no se creyeron esta versión, y tras comprobar que no se trataba de falsificaciones, las obras fueron confiscadas. El Mundo, 29/11/2010
This work is one of the 271 that came to light in 2010. The news was published by the French newspaper Libération. Retired French electrician Pierre Le Guennec tried to obtain certificates of authenticity from the artist's heirs.
"Among the works discovered are some unusual ones, such as nine 'cubist collages' painted at the beginning of the second decade of the century, a period from which many of the artist's works were lost, and valued at some 40 million euros. But also a watercolor from his blue period or gouache paintings on paper, studies painted on canvas, in addition to two hundred drawings".
According to the newspaper, Le Guennec stated to the police that he had worked as Picasso's electrician in the different residences that the painter had on the Côte d'Azur, while adding that it was the artist or his wife Jacqueline who gave him the works as a gift. The heirs did not believe this version, and after checking that they were not forgeries, the works were confiscated. El Mundo, 29/11/2010
