El 1 de Octubre es el cumple de
Emilio Pettoruti, pintor argentino nacido en 1882 en la ciudad de La Plata, provincia de Buenos Aires.
Estudió Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires y en 1913 viajó becado a Europa instalándose en Florencia. A pesar de su intención de copiar el arte clásico, entra en contacto con los futuristas, movimiento que transforma su vida y su obra, y que sigue hasta que conoce el Cubismo que encaja mejor con sus expectativas.
En 1916 conoce a Xul Solar, con quien años más tarde serían los pioneros en la vanguardia argentina. En 1924 viaja a París donde conoce al cubista Juan Gris. Luego retorna junto a Xul Solar a Argentina, y en octubre del mismo año Pettoruti expone en solitario en la Galería Witcomb generando un escándalo. Sus detractores, acostumbrados a la pintura costumbrista, naturalista que se desarrollaba en el país en ese momento, consideraron a las obras como “Una grave ofensa inferida a la dignidad del país”. Por otra parte los progresistas consideraban a Pettoruti como "lo nuevo".

En el año 1930 se le ofreció el cargo de director del Museo de Bellas Artes de La Plata, el cual se propuso profesionalizar, aumentando su patrimonio pictórico, comprando obras de artistas como Xul Solar. Terminó renunciando al cargo por desavenencias con el peronismo y regresó a Europa. Volvió a la abstracción y realizó varias exposiciones.
Murió en 1970.

Marion Peck, pintora surrealista pop nacida en Manila, Filipinas, en 1963, con sede en Estados Unidos.
Creció en Seattle, Washington, siendo la menor de cuatro hermanos.
Peck recibió una Licenciatura en Bellas Artes de la Escuela de Diseño de Rhode Island en 1985, a los 18 años. Posteriormente estudió dos Másters en la Universidad de Syracuse en Nueva York y la Universidad de Temple en Roma, después de lo cual vivió en Italia durante unos años, absorbiendo el arte, paisaje y los alimentos.
Actualmente vive en Los Ángeles con su marido, Mark Ryden.
Peck se hizo conocida por su obra en el surrealismo pop, y ha expuesto en París, Roma, Nueva York, Los Ángeles, San Francisco y Seattle. Su trabajo también ha sido utilizado para portadas de discos, como Waking the Mystics del grupo art rock de Portland Sophe Lux. Peck publicó con su marido un libro llamado Sweet Wishes.

Makoto Aida (会田誠), artista japonés nacido en 1965 en Niigata, conocido por sus provocativas obras de manga, pintura, video, fotografía, escultura e instalaciones.

Aunque menos conocido internacionalmente que Takashi Murakami o Yoshitomo Nara, es reconocido su país como una de las figuras más prominentes del arte contemporáneo japonés.
Obtuvo un título de posgrado de la Universidad de las Artes de Tokio.

Luc-François Breton, escultor francés nacido en 1731 en Besançon.
Fue Alumno de Claude-François Attiret. Influenciado por Puget, residió durante mucho tiempo en Roma y trabajó esencialmente en su ciudad natal Besanzón a partir de 1771.

Josef Bolf, pintor checo nacido en 1971 en Praga.
Estudió en la Academia entre 1990 - 1998. En 1995 estudió en Kongsthögskolan (Estocolmo) y en 1996 en la Akademie der Künste Bildenden en Stuttgart. Entre 1996 y 2002 fue miembro del grupo de arte Bezhlavý jezdec.

Hoy, 8 de Octubre, es el cumple de
Bartolomé Maura y Montaner, grabador y pintor español nacido en Palma de Mallorca en 1844. (8 o 19 de octubre según las fuentes)
Fue comendador de la Orden de Isabel la Católica, director artístico de la Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre y grabador jefe del Banco de España. Fue hermano del político y escritor Antonio Maura y Montaner y bisabuelo de la actriz Carmen Maura.

Su madre, Margarita, procedía de una famosa familia de grabadores y pintores mallorquines, en la que destacó Joan Muntaner Cladera. Le influyó en la trayectoria a seguir su tío materno, continuador de varias generaciones de artistas de la saga Montaner formados en Bolonia, Roma y Madrid.
Estudió en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Palma de Mallorca con el maestro Francisco Parietti. Se trasladó a Madrid en 1868 para ingresar en la Escuela Especial de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, donde tuvo como maestros a Federico de Madrazo y Carlos Luis de Ribera.

On October 1 is the birthday of
Emilio Pettoruti, Argentine painter born in 1882 in the city of La Plata, province of Buenos Aires.
He studied Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and in 1913 traveled to Europe thanks to a scholarship settling in Florence. Despite his intention to copy classical art, comes into contact with the Futurists, a movement that transformed his life and his work, and follow it until he discover cubism that best fits his expectations.
In 1916 he met Xul Solar, with whom years later would be the pioneers in the Argentine avant garde. In 1924 he traveled to Paris where he met the cubist Juan Gris. Then they return together with Xul Solar to Argentina, and in October the same year Pettoruti held a solo exhibition at the gallery Witcomb creating a scandal. His detractors, accustomed to the genre, naturalist painting developed in the country at that time, considered the works as "A serious offense inferred to the dignity of the country". Moreover progressists considered Pettoruti as "the new".
In 1930 he was offered the position of director of the Museum of Fine Arts in La Plata, which was proposed professionalizing, raising his pictorial heritage, buying works by artists as Xul Solar. He ended up resigning the position by disagreements with Peronism and returned to Europe. He returned to abstraction and made several exhibitions.
He died in 1970.

Gražina Didelytė-Abaravičienė, Lithuanian graphic artist and illustrator of books.
She graduated from the Vilniaus dailės akademija (Art Institute of Lithuania), specializing in graphic arts. She began his artistic activities in 1968. She participated in exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, and illustrated several books. Many of her works were awarded with diplomas and medals, especially her bookplates.
She was an activist against the Soviet occupation of the country, participating in clandestine activities.
She died in 2007.

Fortunato Lacámera, Argentine painter born in 1887 in the neighborhood of La Boca, which becomes favorite subject of his paintings. He died in 1951.

Bartolomé Maura y Montaner, Spanish painter and printmaker born in Palma de Mallorca in 1844. (October 8 or 19 depending on the source)
He was Commander of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, artistic director of the National Mint and Stamp and head engraver of the Bank of Spain. He was the brother of the politician and writer Antonio Maura and Montaner and great grandfather of actress Carmen Maura.
His mother, Margarita, came from a famous family of engravers and painters from Mallorca. One of the most important was Joan Muntaner Cladera. Bartolomé'e path was influenced by his maternal uncle, continuer of several generations of artists of Montaner saga, formed in Bologna, Rome and Madrid.
He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Palma de Mallorca with the Master Francisco Parietti. He moved to Madrid in 1868 to join the School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, where his teachers were Federico de Madrazo and Carlos Luis de Ribera.
