Fulla's work was fundamentally important for the establishment of Slovak modernism. His personal style is characterized by a special "poetry of the image" relying on surface and decoration, a synthesis of rational and emotional elements, brilliant colour, knowledge of folk art, East Slavonic iconography and world Modernism.

Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) (Nueva York, EE.UU./ NY, USA)

General Nollet And The German Works"
Caricatura en / Caricature in Simplicissimus, 7/7/1921

Publicó una autobiografía altamente cínica en 1942 Ich warte auf Wunder (I Wait for Miracles).

You too have the right to self-determination. Would you like your pockets to be emptied before or after death?"
Caricatura en / Caricature in Simplicissimus, 3/6/1919

From left to right: Wilson, Clemenceau, Germany, Lloyd George
The caricature shows how the "Big Three" (USA, France and Great Britain), through the Treaty of Versailles, will destroy Germany without mercy, using the guillotine (terror), appropriating everything it has. They hold their nobility (right of self-determination, the 14 points), and Germany has nothing to say.

On February 28 is the birthday of

Thomas Theodor Heine, German painter and illustrator born in 1867 in Leipzig.
He established himself as a gifted caricaturist at an early age, which led to him studying art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and, briefly, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
In 1896 he became successful as an illustrator for the satirical Munich magazine Simplicissimus, for which he appropriated the stylistic idiom of Jugendstil and the graphic qualities of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Aubrey Beardsley and Japanese woodcuts.

"In den Schächten / En los ejes / In the Shafts"
Caricatura en / Caricature in Simplicissimus, 21/1/1919

The illustrated critiques of social orders, and the monarchy in particular, that he made for the magazine led to a six-month prison sentence in 1898. He also began work as a book illustrator in the 1890s.
In 1910 he designed the "bulldog breaking his chain", which will serve to promote the spirit of the magazine for several years.
At the end of the First World War, he painted a caricature, "Versailles" (June 1919), which refers to the Treaty of Versailles signed June 28, 1919, and causes a scandal.

"Die Cholera am Balkan / Cólera en los Balcanes / Cholera In The Balkans"
Caricatura en / Caricature in Simplicissimus, 9/12/1912

He fled Germany in 1933, first to Prague. From 1938 until 1942 he lived in Oslo, and from 1942 until his death in 1948 he lived in Stockholm.
He published a highly cynical autobiography in 1942 Ich warte auf Wunder (I Wait for Miracles).

Simplicissimus was a satirical German weekly magazine started by Albert Langen in April 1896 and published until 1967, with a hiatus from 1944-1954. It became a biweekly in 1964. It took its name from the protagonist of Grimmelshausen's 1668 novel Der Abenteuerliche Simplicissimus Teutsch (English: Simplicius Simplicissimus).

On February 26 is the birthday of

Carl Oswald Bulla or Karl Karlovich Bulla (Карл Карлович Булла), German-Russian photographer, often referred to as the "father of Russian photo-reporting", born in 1853 or 1855 in Leobschütz in Prussia (now Głubczyce, Poland).
In 1865 the adventurous boy ran away from his family to St. Petersburg, Russian Empire. After arriving in St. Petersburg, Bulla started to work as a delivery-boy in the firm Dupant that made and sold photography supplies. Soon his responsibilities included handmaking (coating and sensitizing) of the photographic glass negative plates. At the age of twenty Bulla opened a small factory producing "momentary dry bromine-gelatin plates". Buying the readymade photographic materials was much more convenient than handmaking their own and soon Bulla's plates became popular, selling not only in St.Petersburg but across the whole Russian Empire. In February 1876 Bulla requested his naturalization and in July 1876 became a subject of the Russian Empire.

In 1875 Bulla opened his first photographic studio at 61 Sadovaya Street, and soon became a fashionable photographer. For ten years he worked there doing pavilion portrait photography. Then in 1886 he received the permit from the St.Petersburg Police allowing him to take pictures everywhere. While he did not abandon studio photography (in fact he opened two more studios: on the Catherine Canal and on Nevsky Prospekt) but became more in more involved into photography of city life.
At the end of the 19th century newspaper printing technology allowed the publishing of photographs. In 1894 Russian Department of Post and Telegraphs also allowed use of postcards. Both events significantly increased the demand for photographs. In 1895 Bulla stopped his production of photographic supplies and put all his energy into photography. In his advertisement he wrote "The oldest photographer-illustrator Karl Bulla photographs for the illustrated magazines anything and anywhere without limits from the landscape or the building, indoor or outdoor day or night at the artificial light".

Indeed, he photographed everything and anything: Life of Tsar family and assemblies of anti-government intelligentsia, stars of scene and manual workers, palaces and hostels for homeless, even such exotics as gay parties. Bulla was on the editorial board of many magazines including popular Niva. In 1910s the annual revenue of the firm "Bulla and Sons" reached 250 thousand roubles.
In 1916 Bulla passed the management of the firm "Bulla and sons" to his sons Alexander and Viktor and moved to Ösel Island (currently Saaremaa, Estonia). He lived a quiet life there, photographing the local ethnographic material and teaching Estonian boys the basics of photography until his death in 1929.
