El 21 de Julio es el cumple de
Jean-Baptiste Mondino, fotógrafo de moda, retratista y director de vídeos musicales francés. Ha dirigido videos para Madonna, David Bowie, Sting, Björk, Jaye Muller "J.", Neneh Cherry y Les Rita Mitsouko. Mondino también ha fotografiado las portadas y arte interior para los álbumes de Marianne Faithfull "Before The Poison" (2005) y "Easy Come, Easy Go" (2008), "Shakespear's Sister's Hormonally Yours" (1992), y los de Alain Bashung "Osez Joséphine" de (1991) y "Chatterton" (1994), y es director artístico para un documental DVD incluido con una edición especial de este último álbum, dirigido por Ann Rohart.

El video de Don Henley de "The Boys of Summer", dirigido por Mondino, barrió en los MTV Video Music Awards en 1985, ganando "Mejor Video", "Mejor Dirección", "Mejor Dirección de Arte" y "Mejor Fotografía". Este video le empareja con el director de fotografía compatriota Pascal Lebègue, con quien más tarde realizaría varios vídeos musicales notables otras en blanco y negro, como los "Rusos" de Sting y "Justify My Love" de Madonna.

Mondino has also photographed the covers and album packaging for the Marianne Faithfull albums Before The Poison (2005) and Easy Come, Easy Go (2008), Shakespear's Sister's Hormonally Yours (1992), Alain Bashung's Osez Joséphine (1991) and Chatterton (1994) and is Artistic Director for a DVD documentary included with a special edition of the latter album, directed by Ann Rohart.

El 22 de Julio es el cumple de
Chas Gerretsen, fotógrafo de guerra, fotoperiodista y fotógrafo publicitario de cine holandés nacido en 1943 en Groningen.
Dejó Holanda a los dieciséis años, y después de viajar por Europa durante dos años emigró a Australia en 1961. Comenzó a tomar fotos mientras trabajaba como cazador de cocodrilos en la península de Cape York, (Queensland, Australia).
En 1963 emigró a los Estados Unidos, aterrizando en San Pedro, California, y mientras trabajaba como vaquero en Falfurrias, Texas, compró una cámara de cine y grabó su primera película.
En 1967 llegó a Singapur y recorrió Malasia como autoestopista hasta Bangkok (Tailandia) y vía Kanchanaburi hasta el Paso de las Tres Pagodas, donde pasó tres meses con los rebeldes birmanos pro-U Nu bajo el mando del general Bo Yan Naing.

Viajó por Laos, Camboya, y entró en Vietnam del Sur el 14 de febrero de 1968, con el equivalente a 0,75 dólares en el bolsillo. En abril de 1968 se convirtió en camarógrafo de UPITN, pero después de un mes ya estaba harto de que le dijeran qué hacer y se convirtió en camarógrafo freelance para ABC TV y en tal calidad vendió sus negativos a Time Life, Newsweek y U.P.I.. A finales del 68 y principios de 1969, había un silencio relativo en Vietnam del Sur y Chas, así como muchos de los otros fotógrafos de guerra "residentes", se fueron (entre otros Sean Flynn y Dana Stone), sólo para regresar tras la invasión estadounidense de Camboya.
En 1970 cubrió el devastador ciclón Bhola en el este de Pakistán antes de regresar a Europa.
En 1973 ganó la Medalla de Oro Robert Capa con David Burnett y Raymond Depardon. Es bien conocido por su cobertura del golpe de Estado chileno de 1973. En junio de 1975 Chas abrió la oficina de Hollywood para Gamma y en 1977 cofundó la agencia de fotografía Mega Productions Inc. En 1976 fue contratado como fotógrafo fijo/fotógrafo especial para la película de guerra "Apocalypse Now". Además de sus fotografías fijas, su contribución a la película fue la sugerencia, durante un almuerzo con Francis Ford Coppola sobre la escena en la que un corresponsal de televisión (interpretado por Francis Ford Coppola) grita a algunos soldados que pasan: "No mires a la cámara". "...que si Francis quería burlarse de los corresponsales de televisión en Vietnam del Sur, debería crear un fotoperiodista porque, "todos estábamos locos".
Un par de días después, tras la llegada de Dennis Hopper, Jerry Ziesmer le pidió a Chas que informara a Francis Ford Coppola: "sobre cómo vestir a un fotógrafo de combate". A partir de ese momento, el papel de Dennis Hopper como jefe de filas (Capitán Colby) del Coronel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) se transformó en el de un fotoperiodista.
Durante su estancia en Hollywood (1975-1989) trabajó como "fotógrafo especial publicitario" en más de un centenar de largometrajes.
Después de dejar la agencia fotográfica francesa Gamma, se perdieron más de 80.000 de sus negativos y diapositivas, muchos de ellos de Chile.
El resto de sus archivos, sus negativos y diapositivas se encuentran ahora en los archivos del Museo de Fotografía de Holanda.

On July 22 is the birthday of
Chas Gerretsen, Dutch war photographer, photojournalist and film advertising photographer born in 1943 in Groningen.
Gerretsen left the Netherlands at the age of sixteen and after travelling through Europe for two years, immigrated to Australia in 1961. He first started to take pictures while working as a crocodile hunter in Cape York Peninsula, (Queensland, Australia)
In 1963 he immigrated to the U.S.A., landing in San Pedro, California, and while working as a cowboy in Falfurrias, Texas, bought a movie camera and shot his first film footage.
In 1967 he arrived in Singapore and hitch-hiked through Malaysia to Bangkok, (Thailand) and via Kanchanaburi to the Three Pagodas Pass where he spent three months with the pro-U Nu Burmese rebels under the command of General Bo Yan Naing.

He traveled through Laos, Cambodia and entered South Vietnam, on 14 February 1968 with the equivalent of US $0.75 in his pocket. In April 1968, he became a staff cameraman for UPITN but after one month had enough of being told what to do and became a freelance cameraman for ABC TV and as a freelance photojournalist sold his still negatives to Time Life, Newsweek and U.P.I.. At the end of '68 and beginning 1969, there was a relative quiet in South Vietnam and Chas as well as many of the other "resident" war photographers, left (among others: Sean Flynn and Dana Stone), only to return upon the American invasion of Cambodia.
In 1970 he covered the devastating Bhola cyclone in East Pakistan before returning to Europe.
In 1973 he won the Robert Capa Gold Medal with David Burnett and Raymond Depardon. He is best known for his coverage of the 1973 Chilean coup d'état. His famous photograph of General Pinochet became the embodiment of the Latin American Dictator, the opposite side of the political spectrum to Alberto Korda photograph of Che Gueverra (Guerrillero Heroico).

In June 1975, Chas started the Hollywood office for Gamma and in 1977 co-founded the photo agency Mega Productions Inc. In 1976 he was hired as the still photographer/special photographer for the war film Apocalypse Now. Apart from his still photographs, his contribution to the film was the suggestion, during a lunch with Francis Ford Coppola regarding the scene where a TV correspondent (played by Francis Ford Coppola) yells at some passing soldiers, "Don’t look at the camera." "..that if Francis wanted to mock TV correspondents in South Vietnam he should create a photojournalist because, "we were all crazy."
A couple of days later, after the arrival of Dennis Hopper, Chas was asked by Jerry Ziesmer to report to Francis Ford Coppola: "on how to dress a combat photographer." From that moment on the role of Dennis Hopper as head honcho (Captain Colby) for Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) was changed into that of a photojournalist.
During (1975–1989) his time in Hollywood he worked, as a "special advertising and publicity photographer", on over a hundred feature films.
After leaving the French photo agency Gamma over 80.000 of his photographic negatives and slides were missing, including many from Chile.
The remainder of his files, his negatives and slides are now stored in the archives of the Netherlands Photo Museum.

Burton "Burt" Samuel Glinn, fotógrafo profesional estadounidense nacido en 1925 en Pittsburgh, que trabajó con Magnum Photos.
Cubrió la entrada del líder revolucionario Fidel Castro a La Habana, Cuba, y fotografió a personalidades como Andy Warhol y Helen Frankenthaler.
Estudió literatura en la Universidad de Harvard, donde editó y fotografió para el periódico universitario Harvard Crimson. Sirvió en el ejército de los Estados Unidos y trabajó para la revista Life de 1949 a 1950. Se convirtió en miembro asociado de Magnum Photos en 1951 junto con Eve Arnold y Dennis Stock - los primeros estadounidenses en unirse a la agencia - y se convirtió en miembro pleno en 1954.

Glinn se hizo famoso por sus fotos a color de los Mares del Sur, Japón, Rusia, México y California. En una fiesta de Año Nuevo en 1958 le notificaron que Fidel Castro se había apoderado de Cuba. Al amanecer del día siguiente estaba cubriendo la revolución en Cuba. En 1959 recibió el Premio Mathew Brady al Fotógrafo de Revista del Año, ofrecido por la Universidad de Missouri por un ensayo fotográfico sobre los Mares del Sur.

Cubrió la guerra del Sinaí, así como la invasión de los marines de EE.UU. en el Líbano y también completó un proyecto de ensayo fotográfico sobre ciencias médicas. Sus imágenes han sido publicadas en Esquire, Fortune, Geo, Life, Travel and Leisure y Paris-Match.
Cuando se le preguntó en una entrevista con cuál de sus imágenes se identificaba más, Glinn respondió que sin duda con la que muestra la parte posterior de la cabeza de Nikita Jruschov frente al Monumento a Lincoln.

On July 23 is the birthday of
Burton "Burt" Samuel Glinn, American professional photographer born in 1925 in Pittsburgh, who worked with Magnum Photos.
He covered revolutionary leader Fidel Castro's entrance into Havana, Cuba, and photographed people such as Andy Warhol and Helen Frankenthaler.
He studied literature at Harvard University, where he edited and photographed for the college newspaper Harvard Crimson. He served in the US Army and worked for Life magazine from 1949 to 1950. Glinn became an associate member of Magnum Photos in 1951 along with Eve Arnold and Dennis Stock - the first Americans to join the agency - and became a full member in 1954.

Glinn became famous for his color pictures of the South Seas, Japan, Russia, Mexico, and California. At a New Year's party in 1958, Glinn was notified that Fidel Castro had taken over Cuba. By dawn the next day he was covering the revolution in Cuba. In 1959 the photographer received the Mathew Brady Award for Magazine Photographer of the Year, offered by the University of Missouri for a photo essay on the South Seas.

He was president of Magnum from 1972 to 1975 (then re-elected to the position in 1987) and also served as president of the American Society of Media Photographers. He covered the Sinai War as well as the US Marine invasion of Lebanon and also completed a photo essay project on medical science. His images have been published in Esquire, Fortune, Geo, Life, Travel and Leisure, and Paris-Match.
When asked in an interview which of his images he most closely identifies with, Glinn replied that without a doubt it is the picture showing the back of Nikita Khrushchev's head in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
He died in 2008.
