Kisung Koh [Pintura / Painting]

Kisung Koh

"Reflejo eterno / Eternal Reflection", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 30" x 30", 2017

"MT. Gorilla", técnica mixta sobre panel / mixed media on board, 2012

"Corazón valiente / Brave Heart", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 18" x 24", 2016

"Un paseo onírico / A Dream Walk"
Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 61 × 61cm., 2017

"Objetos perdidos / Lost and Found", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 7" x 5", 2016

"Mi 12 de octubre / My 12th October", acrílico sobre lino / acrylic on linen, 18" x 18", 2017

"El reino / The Reign" , óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 13" x 17", 2014

"Hora del almuerzo / Dinner Time"

"Encuentro / Encounter", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 12" x 12"

"Schadenfreude", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 24" x 24", 2018

"El camino de la vida / Way of Life", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 24" x 18"

«I love animals and nature like anyone else. They are all my inspirations.
My current works depict dreamy and imaginative place with animals and full of mysterious spirits where wildlife animals and I could feel secure and safe.
There is nothing more beautiful than when you actually see a wild animal in the nature. However, we rarely see them from where they are supposed to be and just don’t know how amazing they are to be alive.
In my paintings, I always think I should be integrated with nature and animals as I put myself into each painting and I want to share my thought and connect with people through my works.
As I see, feel, and hear animals, I also find more of myself.»

"Bob", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 12" x 12"

"Placer extraordinario / Extraordinary Pleasure", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 20 x 20 cm., 2017

Long Live the Polar Treasure is dedicated entirely to the majestic and endangered polar bear.
With its Arctic habitat seriously depleted and at risk given the onslaught of global warming and climate change, the polar bear’s existence and longevity as a species are no longer secure. Koh has used this body of work as an ode to the ongoing displacement and compromise due to the destruction of the bear’s environment. Drawing personal parallels with his own life, Koh identifies with the difficulties of deracination and the pangs of dislocated belonging.
Working in oil on panel, Koh creates beautifully detailed works, dreamlike in their atmospheric execution and dramatic in their contrasts between light and dark. Hyperreal depictions of these animals seem to emerge from soft hazy atmospheres or blackened darkness. Depicted in varying states of rest, in verdant landscapes to which they don’t belong, the works are beautiful but heavy with an ominous suggestion of sadness.

"Contigo 2 / With You 2", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood,18" x 18"

"Un observador borroso / A Fuzzy Watcher"
Óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 6" x 6"

Through his captivating and magical art, Koh captures the essence and the beauty of the natural world, reminding us that our relationships with it are often more precious and rewarding than we sometimes take the time to remember. This is a highly valuable lesson that needs to be heard as far and wide as possible – in the settings of the modern world, human beings often forget that we need to co-exist with other living beings and that we have a deeply rooted bond with the natural world. Koh reminds us about that fact and contributes to the struggle of preserving nature, making us re-discover all of its magic and beauties.

"Picnic / Cookout", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 12" x 12", 2015

"Ballet de medianoche / Midnight Ballet", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 24" x 24"

"Alfombra mágica / Magic Carpet", óleo sobre tabla / oil on wood, 20" x 20"

«I know we are not talking about the case of some abstract work that someone is staring at for hours, but I want to create imagery that allows viewers to deeply feel my thoughts and emotions. Although there is plenty evidence of bright or highly saturated colors in my work, I also want viewers to delve deeper and see the hidden sadness in what I create.»

"Nuevo y malo / Good & Bad", técnica mixta / mixed media, 20" x 26,75", 2011

"Como el cuarto creciente / Like the Crescent Moon", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 51 x 51 cm., 2017
