"Ataques juguetones / Playful Attacks"
Spending some time in local marshes generally means encountering many Tree Swallows. These little birds can often be seen flying quickly and erratically around in the air as they hunt for insects.
Tree Swallows take very well to nesting in man-made bird houses. The problem, it seems for these two birds, is that there aren’t enough houses to go around. The fight is on!

"Vigilancia materna / Mother’s Watch"
Mothers are always watchful of their young, and this Moose is no exception. She was leading her two young ones around a winding creek, but constantly looking back in my direction to ensure everyone’s safety.
I watched these moose from a very close vantage point at first, but there were so spread out and cluttered with trees. I waited as the family moved off and crossed a small creek, and for a brief moment they looked back before heading into the wilderness once again.
Photographed in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario.

This is simple blade of grass that I sprayed with a mist bottle, and crawled underneath it to have the blue sky refract inside the droplets. This is one of the few water droplet refraction images I’ve made using natural light, which was a necessary part of the equation – ambient light from the sky needed to fill in the droplets.
This is also 16 images focus-stacked together to increase the depth of field. This image was shot hand-held so there was some alignment and plenty of tweaking involved to get it looking it’s best, but the editing time is well worth it.

The entire crystal cannot be completely in focus in any one frame, so multiple images are used to put the final photograph together. 30-50 images on average are used in the creation of the snowflake photograph, though hundreds of images are taken to ensure that no slice of focus is missed. Each snowflake is shot entirely handheld, without the use of a tripod. The images are created outdoors in cold temperatures so the snowflakes do not melt, and only the freshest snow will do; Snowflakes that have been resting for even an hour will begin to lose their delicate crystalline features. Timing is everything!

"Esencia de ensueño / Essence of Reverie"
This is a seed from a small wildflower (likely Prairie Smoke or something quite similar). The “fluff” on the seed does a great job at attracting water droplets, and when sprayed with a mist bottle they can produce a beautiful array of spherical droplets. These tiny droplets act like a lens, and refract an image of whatever is behind them. The next part of this trick involves a flower.
I prefer daisy-like flowers for these kinds of images, due to their circular flat shape. This particular flower had a blue center, which added a nice touch of contrast to the composition. The flower is placed behind the seed, and it becomes the out-of-focus background. It pops into focus in each of the droplets that have a direct view to it, filling the scene with dozens of tiny flowers.
