El 28 de Abril es el cumple de
Horst Faas, fotoperiodista alemán ganador de dos premios Pulitzer, nacido en 1933. Es conocido por sus imágenes de la Guerra de Vietnam.
Faas comenzó su carrera fotográfica en 1951, con la Agencia Keystone, y a los 21 años ya estaba cubriendo grandes eventos relativos a Indochina, incluyendo las negociaciones de paz de Ginebra en 1954. En 1956 se unió a Asociated Press (AP), donde adquirió reputación como reportero de guerra duro e inquebrantable, cubriendo las guerras de Vietnam y Laos, así como las del Congo y Argelia. En 1962 se convirtió en fotógrafo jefe de AP para el sudeste asiático, y estuvo radicado en Saigón hasta 1974. Sus imágenes de la Guerra de Vietnam le hicieron ganar un Pulitzer en 1965. Sameer Makarius, pintor, diseñador y decorador, dedica a partir de 1950 la mayor parte de su trabajo a la fotografía.
Nació en 1924 en El Cairo. Hijo de madre alemana y padre egipcio, su juventud transcurrió entre esos países y Hungría, donde se vio forzado a permanecer durante la guerra. Allí realizó sus estudios secundarios y se inició en la pintura y la escultura. Vivió en Suiza y en París. En 1953 se radicó definitivamente en la Argentina.
En 1944 presenta su obra en la “Primera exposición de Arte no Figurativo” en Budapest.
En Argentina, formó un grupo de fotógrafos (Forum) dedicado a promover la fotografía como arte. colaboró con diarios y revistas. Sameer Makarius fue un pionero de la fotografía y en su estudio en Argentina, conformando el Grupo ANFA y Forum, participaron fotógrafos de la talla de Max Jacoby, Humberto Rivas, Julio Maubecin, Jose Costa, Lisl Steiner, Rodolfo Ostermann entre otros.
Escribió el primer ensayo publicado en el país sobre fotografía argentina desde 1840 hasta 1981. Publicó dos libros de fotografías y textos: Buenos Aires y su gente (1960) y, en 1963, Buenos Aires, Mi Ciudad. Murió en 2009.

Hoy, 30 de Abril, es el cumple de
José Hernández Claire, fotógrafo nacido en Guadalajara (Jalisco, México) en 1949. Estudió fotografía en el Pratt Institute de Brooklyn, Nueva York de 1978 a 1982. Ha participado en 25 exposiciones individuales y más de 50 exposiciones colectivas en el mundo entero, en países como Hungría, Suiza, Bélgica, Cuba, Reino Unido, Francia, Canadá, Líbano, España y por supuesto México.
Su obra pertenece a importantes colecciones internacionales: el Museo del Elíseo en Suiza; la Biblioteca Nacional de Paris, el Museo Nicephore-Niepce en Chalon-Sur-Saone en Francia, el Portland Museum of Art en Estados Unidos, el Museo de Fotografía de Hungría (Collección M+M Auer) en Suiza.
En el 2001 fue nombrado becario de la John Simon Guggenheim Foundation en Nueva York, USA. En 1992 recibió el premio internacional de fotoperiodismo Rey de España en Madrid.

On April 28 is the birthday of
Horst Faas, German photo-journalist and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner born in 1933. He is best known for his images of the Vietnam War.
Faas began his photographic career in 1951 with the Keystone Agency, and by the age of 21 he was already covering major events concerning Indochina, including the peace negotiations in Geneva in 1954. In 1956 he joined the Associated Press (AP), where he acquired a reputation for being an unflinching hard-news war photographer, covering the wars in Vietnam and Laos, as well as in the Congo and Algeria. In 1962, he became AP’s chief photographer for Southeast Asia, and was based in Saigon until 1974. His images of the Vietnam War won him a Pulitzer Prize in 1965. In 1967 he was severely wounded in the legs by an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) and used a wheelchair for the rest of his life. In 1972, he collected a second Pulitzer, for his coverage of the conflict in Bangladesh. He died in 2012.

In 2001 he was named a fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation in New York, USA. In 1992 he received the international prize for photojournalism King of Spain in Madrid.
