Gus [Fotografía, fotomanipulación / Photography, Photomanipulation]

Gus

Born in a small town in northern Spain, Gus was attracted to photography and art in general from a very early age. "I grew up seeing and reading books and works of great artists, Cartier-Bresson, Adams, magnificent impressionist painters, Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir."
Self-taught, he likes to define himself as a "dream catcher".
«Just as with photography time stops, that moment is saved forever, I try to transmit what passes through my mind and capture it, "hunting that dream or illusion" forever.»

He works with his own photographs combining them, editing them and intervening them with different resources such as brushes, textures or actions. The result are images in which twilight, night, melancholy atmospheres predominate, with rain and fog almost omnipresent, and solitary figures, almost always with their backs to the viewer, like ghosts under their umbrellas getting lost in the landscape.
«In most of my work I include people because I consider the human being to be a fundamental part of the environment in which we live.»
He also makes creative editions, purely the result of his imagination, using any necessary resources, such as creating patterns or stock photos.

«The night catches us in the big cities, the trees and the birds are those that less know about the problem, but the most affected, the world changes, we lose illusions, we can see ourselves doomed to a desertic world, without trees, where everything that surrounds to us is cement, concrete, cables and technology, a walk by the field only for sand.
I maintain the hope even, our planet is strong and human beings can help, trees resist, hope is not lost, there are always those who help this does not continue, with our little "grain of sand", in the end, hope is a new beginning, a return to what has always been our planet, a beautiful place, full of vegetation, birds, where we can all live, even trees and the birds  return to their home.»

Despite having started the diffusion and public exhibition of his work only a short time ago, Gus has already obtained several recognitions in the form of prizes, mentions and publication of his work in media such as Shades of Grey and EYE Photomagazine. His images have been included in exhibitions in Italy, France and Romania, and his participation in several exhibitions for this year 2020 has already been confirmed.
His works are published regularly in Photographize, where he is Featured Artist, and they represent him in many aspects. They are preparing a website in English for him with shop included for purchases. During the month of December they have exhibited his works in the AGORA gallery in New York, and they will also do it from February to June, in January not since they will publish next week a special about Gus with 10 images in this magazine's edition.
He is also Featured Artist in "Circle Foundation for the Arts" and a member of the IBWPA (International Black and White Photographic Association).

Gus tells me he's involved on several projects. One of them is the online gallery Photoimaginart.com, a resource created by friends in which he collaborates, where photographers from all over the world can present their work. In just a few months they have surpassed 700 users. They have rigorous criteria for selecting material by a team of curators, which ensures high quality of the offer. The next step will be the creation of a sales gallery.
He also working on a project to raise funds through creations donated by photographers that will be sold at economic prices, and what is obtained will be donated to some NGO or solidarity initiative.
Gus has recently received proposals from galleries in Madrid and Belgium to exhibit and sell his work.

His images have been included in exhibitions in Italy, France and Romania, and his participation in several exhibitions has already been confirmed for this year 2020. In this sense, an exhibition will be held in Gauting, a town near Munich, endorsed by the Spanish Embassy in Germany, with the presence of the Spanish Consul and representatives of the Munich Cervantes Institute in the exhibition. This institution will also publish an article and advertise the event in both the local and Berlin press.
It will be Gus' first solo exhibition, with 10 works from his award-winning series on Climate Change. The works in the series will then be auctioned and 75% of the proceeds will be donated to a Gauting Cultural Institution. More information about this exhibition can be found on the website of the promoters of this initiative, Tagree.
