Marilyn Rita Silverstone fue una fotoperiodista británica nacida en 1929 en Londres y ordenada monja budista.
Silverstone se convirtió en fotoperiodista en 1955, viajando y capturando la gama de imágenes que su visión le llevó a encontrar en Europa, África y Oriente Medio.
En 1956 viajó a la India por encargo para fotografiar a Ravi Shankar. Regresó al subcontinente en 1959; lo que pretendía ser un viaje corto se convirtió en el comienzo de una fascinación por la India que duró el resto de su vida. Sus fotografías de la llegada a la India del Dalai Lama, que escapaba de la invasión china del Tíbet, fueron protagonistas en LIFE.

Marilyn Rita Silverstone was a British photojournalist born in 1929 in London, and ordained Buddhist nun.
Silverstone became a working photojournalist in 1955, traveling and capturing the range of images that her vision led her to find in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
In 1956, she travelled to India on assignment to photograph Ravi Shankar. She returned to the subcontinent in 1959; what was intended to be a short trip became the beginning of a fascination with India which lasted for the rest of her life. Her photographs of the arrival in India of the Dalai Lama, who was escaping from the Chinese invasion of Tibet, made the lead in Life.
Over the years, Silverstone's reputation as a photographer grew. In 1967, she joined Magnum Photos, in which she was only one of five women members. Silverstone's work for Magnum included photographing subjects ranging from Albert Schweitzer to the coronation of the Shah of Iran.
In 1977, she took vows as a Buddhist nun. Her Buddhist name was Bhikshuni Ngawang Chödrön, or Ani Marilyn to her close friends. In her new life in Kathmandu, she researched the vanishing customs of Rajasthan and the Himalayan kingdoms.
She died in 1999.

Barry Kramer was an American photographer born in 1921 in New York City. He was one of the most prolific photographers of his time.
Like many before him, he was not well know during life but revered after death. His images capture the essence of a time gone by in American culture and entertainment.
During his years at NYU he developed a passion for photography. Shooting independently, he sold his photos to newspapers, magazines and other outlets. After graduation he was drafted into the Army in 1942 and assigned to the USO photo corp. There he traveled with USO shows around Europe developing close relationships with stars like Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Steve Allen, Jack Benny, Wayne Newton, Judy Garland and countless other celebrities of the time. The exposure to major stars opened the door for work at Life magazine and National Geographic magazine. In the early 50’s Barry was the first to recognize the star quality of Jayne Mansfield.
Barry had an ability to personally connect with music industry professionals without being a musician himself and was hired regularly to shoot many of the iconic jazz musicians who preformed at the world renowned jazz clubs: Basin Street East, The Village Gate, The Metropol. Artists included Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Kenton, Nina Simone, Tony Bennett, Woody Herman, Freddie Hubbard and innumerable others.
He died in 1984.

Ruth Orkin was an American photographer, photojournalist, and filmmaker born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1921.
Best known for her celebrated photograph An American Girl in Italy (1951), she photographed many celebrities and personalities including Lauren Bacall, Doris Day, Ava Gardner, Tennessee Williams, Marlon Brando, and Alfred Hitchcock.
Ruth grew up in Hollywood, due to her mother's career as a silent film actress. In 1931, she received her first camera, and soon began experimenting by taking photographs of her friends and teachers at school. At the age of 17, she decided to bike across America, beginning in Los Angeles, and ending in New York City for the 1939 World's Fair. She completed the trip in three weeks' time, taking photographs along the way.
She briefly attended Los Angeles City College for photojournalism in 1940, prior to becoming the first messenger girl at MGM Studios in 1941, citing a desire to become a cinematographer. She left the position after discovering the union's discriminatory practices that did not allow female members. She joined the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps during World War II, in 1941 in an attempt to gain filmmaking skills, as advertisements promoting the group promised. The attempt was not fruitful, however, and she was discharged in 1943 without any filmmaking training.
In 1943, Orkin moved to New York City in pursuit of a career as a freelance photojournalist. She began working as a nightclub photographer, and received her first assignment in 1945 from The New York Times to shoot Leonard Bernstein. Shortly after, her freelance career grew as she traveled internationally on assignments and contributed photographs to Life, Look, Ladies' Home Journal, and others. Orkin is credited with breaking into a heavily male field.
Orkin taught photography at the School of Visual Arts in the late 1970s, and at the International Center of Photography in 1980.
She died in 1985.
