Adolfo de Azcarraga in his book Art and Valencian Artists said "Ribera Berenguer is one of our greatest artists for being a painter of genuine strain belonging to the great realist quarry that gave birth to the Spanish art of the golden age. Because Ribera has been for years, determined and vigorous grower of an admirable personal realism; a painter, in short, which is considered the current head of that our painting, aptly called the Brave Seam."

The art critic José Garnería says about this artist, "humble, quiet and introverted, who enjoys painting". Juan de Ribera Berenguer is considered an academically educated painter who believes more in figuration than abstraction, and feels indebted to Velázquez, Michelangelo and El Greco (Domḗnikos Theotokópoulos).

"El entierro del Señor de Orgaz / The Burial of the Count of Orgaz"

The theme of the painting is inspired from a legend of the beginning of the 14th century. In 1312, a certain Don Gonzalo Ruíz, native of Toledo, and Señor of the town of Orgaz, died (his family later received the title of Count, by which he is generally and posthumously known). The Count of Orgaz was a pious man who, among other charitable acts, left a sum of money for the enlargement and adornment of the church of Santo Tomé (El Greco's parish church). He was also a philanthropist and a right-thinking Knight. According to the legend, at the time he was buried, Saint Stephen and Saint Augustine descended in person from the heavens and buried him by their own hands in front of the dazzled eyes of those present.

Probably this work is a late copy, performed by a single artist, a skilled artist who has imitated the pictorial surface of the original, but not the typical work using paint layers and glazes used by the Cretan artist and his closest collaborators. In any case, this is a painter who knows all production of Greco and offers an interesting variety of pictorial resources ...
