His style is reminiscent of the diagrammatic vocabulary found in the illustrations of scientific textbooks, which sometimes express through clinical and scattered views an empirical representation of the natural world. Assembled in a virtual setting, they are references to contemporary events along with images and themes from his personal mythology. Josh Keyes' work is a hybrid of eco-surrealism and dystopian folktales that express a concern for our time and the future of the Earth.

Peter Iden, pintor británico, nacido con un gemelo idéntico en 1945 en Bognor.
Se formó en gráfica en el West Sussex College of Art and Design, luego trabajó como dibujante de arquitectura, pintando en su tiempo libre.
Iden expuso por primera vez en la Royal Institution of Painters in Watercolour de Londres en 1968, cuando tenía 23 años. Al año siguiente organizó la primera de una serie de exposiciones individuales anuales en Chichester, cuyas ganancias le proporcionarían un salario digno durante las dos últimas décadas de su vida.

Era un delineante notablemente equilibrado, pero el diseño asistido por ordenador (CAD) eliminó rápidamente la necesidad de dibujantes arquitectónicos. Cansado del trabajo de jornalero, a principios de la década de 1990 dejó de buscarlo antes de que éste dejara de buscarlo a él.
Dada su formación, no es de extrañar que sus primeras obras recapitularan los inicios de la pintura paisajística inglesa: dibujos topográficos en acuarela de paisajes o paisajes urbanos, basados en un dibujo meticuloso pero fluido. Expuso en la Real Institución de 1977 a 1991. Pero a medida que las acuarelas se hacían más fuertes y luchaban por salir, comenzó a pintar cuadros más grandes y atrevidos al óleo a principios de la década de 1990.

Murió en 2012.

On August 18 is the birthday of
Peter Iden, British painter born an identical twin in 1945 in Bognor.
He trained in graphics at West Sussex College of Art and Design, then worked as an architectural draughtsman, painting in his spare time.
Iden first exhibited at the Royal Institution of Painters in Watercolour in London in 1968, when he was 23. The next year he put on the first of a series of annual one-man shows in Chichester, the proceeds of which would provide him with a living wage for the last two decades of his life.
He was a remarkably poised draughtsman. But Computer Aided Design (CAD) rapidly did away with the need for architectural draughtsmen. Tired of the journeyman work, in the early 1990s he stopped seeking it before it stopped seeking him.

Given his training, it is not surprising that his early work recapitulated the beginnings of English landscape painting — topographical watercolour drawings of landscapes or townscapes, based on meticulous but fluent drawing. He exhibited with the Royal Institution from 1977 to 1991. But as the watercolours became stronger and struggled to break out, he began painting larger, bolder, pictures in oils in the early 1990s.
He had a devoted local following, and at his crowded private views enthusiasts queued in front of the sales desk, chequebooks in hand, to snap up a picture before someone else did. He had no dealer, no agent, no Arts Council grant, and for the past 20 years had supported himself entirely by the sale of his work, a rare achievement for a provincial artist — most teach or lecture or have some other employment to support their artistic production.
He died in 2012.

Josef Anton Engelhart, pintor y escultor austriaco nacido en 1864 en Viena. Fue una de las principales figuras de la escena artística vienesa hacia 1900 y uno de los cofundadores de la Secesión de Viena.
Después de asistir a la escuela secundaria en Radetzkystraße, estudió a partir de 1882 en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Viena y a partir de 1883 en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Munich. Gabriel von Hackl, Johann Caspar Herterich y Ludwig Löfftz fueron sus maestros allí. En 1887 Engelhart regresó a Viena y se unió a la asociación de artistas Hagengesellschaft. Tras el estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial, Engelhart estableció un hospital de reserva para los soldados heridos en su casa y se registró como pintor de guerra en el Imperio Austro-Húngaro. Mostró en numerosas imágenes el difícil destino de la población afectada por la guerra en el frente, así como la miseria en Viena después del final de la guerra.
En 1926 abandonó finalmente la Secesión. En 1935 sufrió un grave accidente de tráfico, cuyas consecuencias obstaculizaron aún más su creatividad artística.
En 1940/41 las pinturas de Engelhart se exhibieron por última vez en el edificio de las Secesiones con motivo de la exposición de Navidad de la Gesellschaft bildender Künstlers Wiens.
Murió en 1941.

On August 19 is the birthday of
Josef Anton Engelhart, Austrian painter and sculptor born in 1864 in Vienna. He was one of the leading figures of the Viennese art scene around 1900 and one of the co-founders of the Vienna Secession.
After attending high school in Radetzkystraße, he studied from 1882 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and from 1883 at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Gabriel von Hackl, Johann Caspar Herterich and Ludwig Löfftz were his teachers there. In 1887 Engelhart returned to Vienna and joined the artists' association Hagengesellschaft. In 1888 he was accepted into the Vienna plastic artists' cooperative, where he exhibited two of his paintings for the first time. 1891/92 Engelhart went to Paris, where he was informed about the latest trends in art and exhibited several of his works at the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts. He then made a trip to Spain, returning to Vienna in 1893.

Engelhart was increasingly successful with the public. Growing tensions at the Künstlerhaus led to the split of several artists and the foundation of the Vereinigung bildender Künstler Österreichs Secession. In addition to Engelhart, the secession included Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser and Carl Moll, while Rudolf von Alt, 85, assumed the honorary presidency. In the following years he largely suspended his artistic activity and devoted himself energetically to the organization and economic development of the new association.
In 1905, a group around Gustav Klimt split into the Secession, while Engelhart directed the remaining artists, who were more conservative than the first and who were described as naturalists.

After the outbreak of World War I, Engelhart established a reserve hospital for wounded soldiers in his home and registered as a war painter in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He showed in numerous images the difficult fate of the war-affected population on the front, as well as the misery in Vienna after the end of the war.
In 1926 he finally abandoned the Secession. In 1935 he suffered a serious traffic accident, the consequences of which further hampered his artistic creativity.
In 1940/41 Engelhart's paintings were last exhibited in the Secession building on the occasion of the Christmas exhibition of the Gesellschaft bildender Künstlers Wiens.
He died in 1941.
