Florence Jacquesson

"Rinoceronte indio / Rhinocéros indien / Indian Rhinoceros", bronce / bronze. Fundición Chapon

Florence Jacqueson es una escultora francesa cuya obra se centra en los primates. Como podemos leer en su sitio web:

"Florence nos interroga esculpiendo todas las actitudes humanas de esos primates, espejos del hombre. Nos inspiran respeto. Interrogativos o preocupados, nos incitan a pensar profundamente sobre el futuro de la humanidad. Chimpancé, bonobo, orangután o mandril, Florencia Jacquesson nunca se cansa de su tema. Presenta cada vez a los monos con signos de actitudes a través de miradas pensativas, interrogativas o asustadas por el mundo que los amenaza."

Sin embargo, no sólo esculpe monos, también otros animales como éstos hermosos rinocerontes.

Florence Jacqueson is a French sculptor whose work focuses on primates. As we read in her website:

"Florence asks us sculpting all human attitudes of these primates, mirrors of men. They inspire us respect. Interrogative or worried, they encourage us to think deeply about the future of humanity. Chimpanzee, Bonobo, Orangutan or Mandrill, Florence Jacquesson never tired of her subject. She shows every time, monkeys in attitudes and carrying thoughtful eyes, interrogative or frightened about the world that threatens them."

However, she not only sculpts monkeys but also other animals like these beautiful rhinoceros.

Okimono, 3,5 x 6 x 1,75 cm., período / period Meiji, fines del s.XIX / late nineteenth century

Esta talla en marfil, encontrada aquí, es un Okimono, o sea una talla decorativa con propósitos exclusivamente decorativos (a diferencia de los netsuke, que tenían una finalidad práctica) y que se fabricaron mucho para exportar a occidente durante el período Meiji. Más informanción en Wiki.

This Ivory carving, founded here, is an Okimono, a decorative carving used.

An okimono may be a small Japanese carving, similar to, but larger than netsuke. Unlike netsuke, which had a specific purpose, okimono were purely decorative and were displayed in the tokonoma. During the Meiji period many okimono were made for export to the west. More info in Wiki.

Hermoso trabajo. Según se indica en la web que lo ofrece:

"Observen éste colmillo de marfil de mamut intrínsecamente esculpido que representa elefantes, monos, rinocerontes y un ciervo en un entorno de vegetación. Observen el cactus detrás del rinoceronte y las hermosas flores. Miren las plantas detrás de la pata del rinoceronte y las hojas bajo el cactus. Observen cuán delicadamente han sido talladas las hojas; aún cuando cada una de ellas es tan pequeña están expertamente trabajadas y son visibles individualmente.

Observen la piel del rinoceronte y las arrugas sobre las patas. La escultura ha sido tallada en el colmillo utilizando la técnica de capas, dando a los animales un aspecto tridimensional."

As we can read in the website:

"Look at this intrinsically sculpted mammoth ivory tusk that portrays elephants, monkey, rhinoceros, and deer within verdant surroundings. See the cactus behind the rhino and the beautiful flowers. Look at the plants just below the rhinoceros foot and the leaves below the cactus. See how delicately the leaves have been carved that even though each of them is so small, each of the leaves is expertly crafted and individually visible.

See the skin of the rhino and the wrinkles above the feet. The complete sculpture has been carved into the tusk with layering technique, giving the sculpted animals a 3 dimensional look."

En el marfil de mamut pueden verse las vetas de color marrón debidas a la absorción de colmillo de minerales del suelo, ya que estuvo enterrado durante siglos bajo el permafrost ártico.

The streaks of brown can be seen on the mammoth ivory and is due to the tusk absorbing minerals from the soil as it lay buried for centuries under the Arctic permafrost.

Jeremy Mann [Pintura]

Me ha gustado mucho el trabajo de este jóven artista por la habilidad con que logra atmósferas cálidas (aún con colores fríos) en sus escenas íntimas, la gracia con que representa la figura femenina y la fuerza impresionista de sus paisajes urbanos de lluvia y neón.

I really liked the work of this young artist by the skill with which manages warm atmospheres -even with cool colors- in their intimate scenes, the grace to represents the female figures and the impressionist strength of his rainy and neon cityscapes.

Jeremy Mann es un pintor estadounidense nacido en 1979 que se graduó Cum Laude en la Universidad de Ohio con una licenciatura en Pintura. Más tarde se trasladó a California donde obtuvo un Master en honores en la Academia de Arte de la Universidad de San Francisco. Desde entonces, Mann ha concitado gran atención en el mundo artístico.

Ejecutados en paneles de formato medio y grande, cada excitante trabajo demuestra el inconfundible estilo del artista. Los paneles de madera ofrecen un fuerte soporte en el cual Mann puede utilizar una variedad de técnicas: tinturas, aplicación de disolventes y amplias marcas arenosas con rodillo de tinta. Mann pinta con confianza y estilo. Apunta a composiciones complejas con mirada madura y colores vívidos y atmosféricos.

"Pose al anochecer / Late Evening Pose"

Viviendo en el centro de San Francisco, pinta sus alrededores próximos con expresión dinámica e íntima. Una variedad de composiciones únicas están inspiradas en el pavimento ciudadano, donde se reflejan las farolas y los letreros de neón brillan bajo la lluvia. En cada trabajo, Mann imbuye a la ciudad de drama, ambiente y personalidad.

Siempre ambicioso, Mann abarca un amplio rango temático más allá de los paisajes ciudadanos: escenas interiores con mujeres jóvenes y solitarias, tan sorprendentes e inquietas como la ciudad misma; un atrevido e intrigante autorretrato, magistrales bodegones y escenas campestres que evocan los paisajes de su tierra natal.

"Con la Revolución Industrial, la ciudad en sí misma se ha convertido en una entidad que ha fascinado a los artistas; de hecho, los Impresionistas sacudieron y escandalizaron a sus audiencias no tanto con por temas urbanos como por lo que hicieron con sus vívidos colores y libertad de pincelada. No siendo evidentemente un impresionista, Mann es claramente su heredero.

De hecho, el tratamiento de Mann de las ciudades estadounidenses (la San Francisco en la que reside representa a todas esas metrópolis con enormes edificios, coches y peatones coincidiendo en ritmos animados y flujo atmosférico) continúa la tradición de pintura ciudadana que emergió en paralelo con el impresionismo y continuó hasta mediados de siglo. En esta tradición la paleta es tenue, incluso tonal; Mann emplea los tonos grises, marrones y azules, contribuyendo a evocar una sensación de noche o tiempo húmedo. El foco del pintor es la media distancia, y la ciudad es retratada como un lugar dinámico de refinamiento tecnológico (o al menos un experimento) e interacciones sociales potenciales. Las imágenes de Mann no van de lo que la gente hace, sino de lo que van a hacer y de lo que les es posible hacer en ese entorno en el que se encuentran."

Jeremy Mann is an american painter (b. 1979) graduated from Ohio University with a Cum Laude degree in Fine Art-Painting. Afterward, he ventured out to California where he earned his MasterÕs Degree with Valedictorian honors at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Since then, Mann has garnered substantial attention in the art world.

Executed on medium to large-scale panels, each exciting work demonstrates the artist's unmistakable style. Working on wood panels provides a strong support, where Mann can utilize a number of techniques: staining the surface, wiping away paint with solvents, and applying broad, gritty marks with an ink brayer. Mann paints with confidence and flair. He addresses complex compositions with a mature eye and his colors are both vivid and atmospheric.

"With the Industrial Revolution, the city itself became an entity that fascinated artists; indeed, the Impressionists shocked and scandalized their audiences no less with their urban subjects than they did with their vivid colors and loose brushwork. While clearly not an Impressionist per se, Mann is clearly the Impressionists’ inheritor.

In fact, Mann’s treatment of American cities – his San Francisco home effectively standing in for all those metropoli where large buildings, cars, and pedestrians coincide in bustling rhythms and atmospheric flow – does continue a tradition of city-painting that emerged parallel with Impressionism and continued up through mid-century. In this tradition, the palette is subdued, even tonal – Mann keeps himself to all-grey, all-brown or all-blue tones, helping to evoke a sense of night or wet weather conditions – the focus of the painter is in the middle distance, and the city is portrayed as a dynamic locus of technological refinement (or at least experiment) and potential social interaction. Mann’s pictures are not about what people are doing, but what they are going to do and what being in such an environment makes it possible for them to do."

Living in downtown San Francisco, Mann paints his immediate surroundings with intimate, dynamic expression. A number of unique compositions are inspired from the city's pavement, where reflected street lamps and neon signs glitter in the rain. In each work, Mann imbues the city with drama, mood, and personality..

Ever ambitious, Mann covers a wide range of subjects beyond cityscapes: interior scenes of lone, young women as striking and restless as the city itself; a bold and intriguing self-portrait, masterful still life paintings, and pastoral scenes that recall the landscape of his hometown.

Jeremy has exhibited regularly since 2002 in solo and group exhibitions in the U.S. and received several mentions and awards.
