A collection of my pen and ink illustrations based on walls i've painted over the past few years. I've hand printed and embossed all the covers myself. It's taken a long time to get this thing done. It's a large edition so it shouldn't sell out too fast. To make sure everyone gets one i'm going to have to limit the online sales to x2 per customer. Please expect long delays in getting these all sent out. I'm not Amazon and i don't have a team of people working for me. I've had mix ups with postage this year so i'm sending all books out in strong card wraps and royal mail signed for.

GALLERY HOUSE OPENING ANNOUNCED APRIL 6, 2013

Catherine Howe “Recent Paintings & Unique Prints from the Proserpina Series”, and other works from Gallery House artists that include: Ray Caesar, Joe Fenton, Anita Kunz & Brian Richer.

Public Opening:

April 6, 2013 at 2:00 – 5:00 p.m .

Exhibition runs from April 6 – May 25, 2013 .

Howe had her first exhibition in New York at White Columns in 1987.  While in Buffalo she served as the Curator of Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center (1984-88), a legendary artist-run space started by Cindy Sherman and Robert Longo. Arriving in New York in the meat-packing district in 1989, Howe became an Associate Director of White Columns until 1995.  She emerged as an artist while in this creative non profit milieu in the early 90’s along with such artists as John Currin and Lisa Yuskavage—artists also interested in painting a new figuration.

Currently she is the Faculty Chair – Graduate Painting & Drawing at the New York Academy of Art and a full time artist. Her paintings have been exhibited extensively in solo shows internationally and appearing in numerous prominent publications that include Art in America, Los Angeles Times, The New Yorker, Artforum and The New York Times.

Catherine Howe "Pinturas recientes e impresiones únicas de la serie Proserpina", y otros trabajos de artistas de la Gallery House que incluyen a Ray Caesar, Joe Fenton, Anita Kunz y Brian Richer.

Apertura al público: 6 de abril, 14:00 a 17:00 hs.

La muestra estará abierta desde el 6 de abril al 25 de mayo de 2013.

Howe hizo si primera muestra en New York en White Columns, en 1987. Mientras estuvo en Buffalo, sirvió como curadora del Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center (1984-88), un legendario espacio artístico establecido por Cindy Sherman y Robert Longo. Llegó a New York en 1989, donde se convirtió en Directora Asociada de White Columns hasta 1995. Emergió como artista a principios de los años 90, junto con artistas como John Currin y Lisa Yuskavage, también está interesado en la pintura de una nueva figuración.

Actualmente es Presidente de la Facultad - Graduada en Pintura y Dibujo en la Academia de Arte de Nueva York y artista de tiempo completo. Sus pinturas se han expuesto extensamente en exposiciones individuales a nivel internacional y aparecen en numerosas publicaciones prominentes que incluyen Art in America, Los Angeles Times, The New Yorker, Artforum y The New York Times.

Conocido en el mundo entero como creador de terribles criaturas y su entorno extraterrestre en el film clásico de ciencia ficción "ALIEN" (por el cual recibió el Oscar a los mejores Efectos Especiales), H.R.Giger es, además, uno de nuestros grandes visionarios y un artista cuya imaginación coexiste con la realidad de su tiempo.

A veces comparado con El Bosco y Dalí, el universo estético de H.R.Giger trasciende los sueños cinemáticos y la ciencia ficción. Pintor, escultor, diseñador, arquitecto de interiores, el pandemonio de visiones de Giger abarcan todos los dominios.

El Museo H.R.Giger, en la ciudad medieval amurallada de Gruyères, Suiza, es el hogar permanente de los trabajos más prominentes del artista, incluída una enorme colección de sus pinturas, esculturas, mobiliario y diseños de cine, desde principios de los años '60 hasta nuestros días.

El nuevo bar del Museo, parte permanente del complejo, está abierto para negocios. Los diseños de Giger para el bar enfatizan la arquitectura gótica preexistente en un espacio de 400 años de antigüedad. La estética biomecánica de Giger, la dialéctica de hombre y máquina, es fundamental en su trabajo, y representa un mundo amenazante, perturbador, erótico y sublime.

Aún abierta la exhibición de obras del polaco Franciszek Starowieyski. Se pueden ver algunas imágenes de la muestra aquí.

Franciszek Andrzej Bobola Biberstein-Starowieyski (8 de julio de 1930, Bratkówka, Polonia - 23 de febrero de 2009) fue un artista polaco. Estudió en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Cracovia y en Varsovia. Se especializó en pósters, dibujo, pintura, diseño de escenografías e ilustración de libros. Fue miembro de la Alianza Gráfica Internacional (AGI). Fue el primer artista polaco en presentar una exposición en solitario en el Museo de Arter Moderno de New York (MoMA) en 1986.

La exposición se articula en dos secciones que muestran la evolución del artista en sus composiciones, desde las primeras obras en las que representa exclusivamente racimos de uvas hasta sus últimas pinturas conocidas en las que las uvas se combinan con otros elementos.

The exhibition is organised into 2 sections that reveal the evolution of the artist’s compositions, from his earliest works that solely depict bunches of grapes to his late paintings in which they are combined with other elements.

Juan Fernández fue un enigmático pintor barroco activo entre 1629 y 1636, de quien únicamente se sabe que vivía alejado de la corte dedicado a pintar flores y frutas, principalmente uvas según lo que recogen los inventarios de pinturas de la época, tarea con la que alcanzó reputación internacional. Antonio Palomino, a quien alcanzó esta fama pero que nada sabía de su vida, dedicó unas líneas a «Juan Labrador Pintor Insigne», suponiéndolo discípulo de Luis de Morales y muerto en Madrid, de mucha edad, hacia 1600.

Juan Fernandez was an enigmatic Baroque Spanish painter active between 1629 and 1636. We only know that he lived away from the court dedicated to painting flowers and fruits, mainly grapes, reaching international reputation. Antonio Palomino, who was informed about artist's fame but who knew nothing about his life, wrote a few lines about "Juan Labrador Distinguished Painter" supposing he was disciple of Luis de Morales and died in Madrid, very old, around 1600.

Probablemente muchos de ustedes estarán pensando qué regalar en éstos días... ¿qué tal un poco de arte? 

Y como el arte original no suele estar al alcance de cualquiera (aunque siempre están las reproducciones de alta calidad a precios asequibles), una opción son los libros de arte. Recomiendo algunos de artistas cuyos trabajos he publicado en el blog, que hasta donde yo sé no están agotados y que, a juzgar por lo publicado, tienen que estar sumamente interesantes...

Probably many of you are thinking about something to give this days ... How about some art?

And as the original art is usually very expensive to anyone (although they are always high quality reproductions at affordable prices), one option is the art books. I recommend some artists whose work I posted on the blog, which to my knowledge are not depleted and that, judging from the images published, must be very interesting ...

Ray Caesar is known as the grandfather of changing the fine art medium using Maya (a 3D modeling software) to create his figures and their environment. Collected by the Hearst Family (media moguls of ESPN); the Bristol Museum and selected auctions affiliated with the Board of Trustees of the Metropolitan Museum, MOMA and Guggenheim.

Ray Caesar es conocido como el abuelo del cambio en los medios para las bellas artes, utilizando Maya (un software para modelar en 3D) para crear sus figuras y entornos. Coleccionado por la Familia Hearst (magnates de los medios de ESPN), el Museo de Bristol y selectas casas de subastas afiliadas al Board of Trustees of the Metropolitan Museum, MOMA and Guggenheim.

Hay algunos artistas que por una u otra razón no me han autorizado a publicar su obra, o no dispongo de material en condiciones para hacerlo, o simplemente no le encuentro la vuelta a cómo diseñar un post decente para presentarlos. En todo caso creo que su trabajo merece ser conocido, así que sin especificar motivos concretos, les dejo algunos enlaces para que no se los pierdan.

There are some artists that for any reason don't give me permission to publish images of their works, or I have no images the way I like to publish, or simply I can't find the right way to design a decent post. Anyway, I think their work worth to be known, so without specification of concrete causes, here you have some links to see, learn and enjoy.

Alfred Weissenegger es un fotógrafo austríaco nacido en 1950 que realiza unos excelentes trabajos, sobre todo en desnudos y naturaleza. Consigue captar una gran plasticidad en sus modelos, y sus imágenes de tiburones blancos son realmente excepcionales.

Alfred Weisseneger is an austrian photographer born in 1950. He makes excelent works, specially in artistic nude and nature. He manages to capture a great plasticity with her models, and his images of white sharks are really breathtaking. You can enjoy his work in his website and deviantart.

Gregory Colbert es un cineasta y fotógrago que comenzó su carrera en París haciendo documentales acerca de asuntos sociales. La realización de películas le llevó a su trabajo como fotógrafo artístico, y la primera exposición pública de su obra tuvo lugar en el Musée de l'Elysée de Suiza. Su trabajo emblemático "Ashes and snow (Ceniza y Nieve)" es un proyecto en curso que entrelaza trabajos fotográficos, películas de 35mm, instalaciones artísticas y una novela presentada en cartas. Con una profunda paciencia y un firme compromiso con la naturaleza expresiva y artística de los animales, ha capturado de forma extraordinaria, improvisadas interacciones entre los seres humanos y los animales.

Gregory Colbert is a filmmaker & photographer starting his career in Paris making documentaries about social issues. His work making movies took him to his work as artistic photographer and his first public show was in the "Musée de l'Elysée" in Switzerland. His emblematic work "Ashes and snow" is a project in progress linking photographic works, 35 mm. movies, artistic installations and a novel presented in letters. With a deep patience and a strong commitment with expressive & artistic nature of animals, he captured in an extraordinary way improvised interactions between animals and human beings.

Malcolm Kirk es un fotógrafo que trabajó como asistente de Irving Penn, y que durante 13 años viajando por zonas del Pacífico sur, se acercó lo bastante a las tribus de Nueva Guinea. Ésta proximidad le permitió ganar su confianza para fotografiarlos con sus vestimentas rituales y decoración corporal, en unos retratos absolutamente increíbles que merece la pena conocer. Se puede visitar su sitio web donde además hay otras series interesantes como "Iconic Figures" en la que retrata a personajes clave en la historia cultural del s.XX (Warhol, Duchamp, Rauschenberg, Arthur Clarke, De Koonig, etc...)

Malcom Kirk is a photographer that worked as Irving Penn's assistant and during 13 years of trips through South Pacific areas, he'd stay very close of New Guinea tribes. He traveled with his backpack through one of the most isolated countries, the Zanskar, where he stayed for four winters, including 1982, which nearly cost him his feet.
